I don't think I know much from 1969 that is really obscure. As you should expect I love Holger Czukay's Canaxis album, and not everyone knows the wonderful Mercator Projected by East of Eden. Other than that my 1969 picks would be pretty well known around here (Renaissance and VDGG are listed among the top 20 1969 albums on PA, I wouldn't call that obscure, as are Monster Movie and Phallus Dei).

of these 29 albums we have 13. I am curious about the Melmoth album; both band name (named after a horror novel by Charles Maturin) and album title (which translates as "The Shop Window of Drunkenesses") are very interesting. according to Discogs the album is from 1970 though. Rateyourmusic gives the release date as 1969

Thanx :) I would add The Flock - The Flock as the honorable mention. It's surely not worst than any album above.

Probably the most obscure 1969 album for me is Van der Graaf Generator - The Aerosol Grey Machine. Not very obscure, I know, but it's probably one of their lesser known albums.

I just went through our collection. the self-titled albums of After All and Andromeda and "!" by Pesky Gee are pretty obscure too. and "Orgasm" by Cro-Magnon, which is also one of the weirdest albums ever

Nice thread. I will most likely forget half of what I want to list and also regret not having X in there..but yeah here goes:
Friendsound - Joyride (American “Krautrock” at it’s finest) Alrune Rod - s/t (Danish psychedelic pastry) Holger Czukay - Canaxis (Complete mindfeck of an album..and brilliant to boot) Edith: Yup! I obviously forgot about Cromagnon’s underground classic Orgasm Edited by Guldbamsen - May 06 2021 at 08:15 |

I have the same opinion about VdGG or Peter Hammill or whoever; I would rather hear their albums recorded live in the studio. but at least VdGG did publish some material that was recorded live in the studio

^Disagee. Ever heard the later Beatles album? Overproduced, big time. Does Barbara D. play live with a band when she's recording. How about Peter Hammill or VDGG? Doubt it. Plenty on jazz cats and classical musicians record live but hardly anyone else.

the sad thing about most modern music is that it sounds sterile due to overdone production. as a rule of thumbs you can say "the better the production the more sterile it sounds". music should LIVE. in my opinion the best way to produce an album is to play live in the studio. not only is this the most honest way, it also adds something very important that gets lost when you record every instrument and voice separately: overtones. the instruments and voices interact with each other, and that leads to overtone fracture and a huge enrichment of sound

I prefer it this way around, starting from 1967 and gradually working our way towards 2021. I'm in no hurry to get to the music of the present day.
