Long live Anarchy! But to get back to your solution:
The first part - putting the original lyrics in the OP - is easy, but the second part seems to be a bit unfeasible, at least for me: I'm not on PA 24 hours a day - Sex, Sleep, Eat, Drink, Dream... take time too (and cycling, hiking, talking to the cat, visiting friends, working, annoying students, etc, etc...), so there will be moments (sometimes even days) that I won't be available to log in and strike out lines... And, as soon as it starts to look like homework, I will be much less inclined to participate, but if there are some brilliant ideas, let's hear them! Really, how it works now is fine for me. Posting the original lyrics in the OP seems a good thing. However, formalizing this more than that feels to me like it's going against the spirit of a "Just for fun" thread. My two cents... Now I'm getting out of this post, because it gets much too serious...

Perfectly reasonable. I certainly won't impose my OCD on anyone. Let the gods decide. |

I decided NOT to be a devious Agent Of Anarchy ( ), so I just took it from the correction.

After the current song is done, can we improve "Hallelujah" (Cohen). I'm a guitar teacher, I'll be nice and just say that I am very 'familiar' with that song due to how many people who want to play it.

^ Fine with me, let's make that #16! Edit: Of course on the condition that you teach your pupils the song with our new lyrics...! Edited by suitkees - May 07 2021 at 11:32 |

Oh gosh, I knew this would become boring... Actually, on second thought, reproducing the original lyrics at the start of a new Rewriting-Classics-thread is not a good idea: it could be considered as an infringement of copyright (well, it actually is: we are reproducing lyrics!). I guess most of the copyright holders themselves wouldn't have much of a problem with what we're doing, but the problem is mostly the copyright managers, and they see money in everything, even when it's not there... So, I guess, before admins interfere (or give us the green light), it is better not to reproduce the original lyrics at the start of each # but rather to link to a page where the lyrics are available (and thus the eventual copyright infringement is on their account and not ours/PA's...). Sorry to be such a bore...

^I'm sorry but that's an extreme view IMHO. There are fair use laws that protect using material in comedic and satirical applications. Clearly that's what we are doing here. There is no profit attempted or implied. If it will make you sleep better at night I'll even include the writers credit at the end of the lyrics. Please ,let's not get carried away with JUST FOR FUN ! Feel free to direct any legal concerns my way. I'll handle it !

Hehe... OK, I got 12 phone calls today, so I will give them your number... Jokes aside, the "fair use" is legally still very ill-defined (case law is also very country dependent), but I agree with you that in principle we probably don't have much to worry (as long as lyrics are also freely available elsewhere, and we can delete them easily on demand). And I don't mind going ahead with this (i.e. giving the original lyrics at the start of each RwC-thread), unless/until admins tell us to act differently. It's just that sometimes my professional experience regarding copyright/authors rights makes me very aware when it comes into play... But don't worry, I sleep well, especially now I can send all the legal claims to you! |

Rather than cross out lines as they happen, you could remove them, that way we aren't reproducing the entire song. Also, putting the whole thing in quotes and putting the author at the bottom are helps too.

^ But then we would loose track of where we are in the song... I don't mind putting up the lyrics in the OP, but as I said somewhere above, I won't necessarily be very "up to date" in striking out lines (and I'm also very lazy... Long live Laziness!). But experiment with it, I would say, to see how/if it works. (If/when we're all using a different method, it will tend a bit to Anarchy... Love that ) You're launching Hallelujah?

Consider it lunched. I'll put an X by each line as it is improved.

Now that we sent her to heaven, we can think of a next one... Who wants to launch #18? (and what will it be? curious and curiouser...)

Reenter your original post in EDIT mode. Highlight the lines you want to strike out. Hit the letter strike out tab. Done. Post reply.

Well, we've danced off into the Moonlit Knight and tipped a pint with the fat old lady outside the saloon. What band deserves our pooled talent as song (re)writers next?
