Has this poll been made before? I have no idea, at least I haven't seen it, so I decided to give it a go. Pink Floyd need no words of introduction, but how many people also love the solo albums of its members? When comparing Floyd to their peers' solo output, I would say Floyd did not have the strongest solo albums but definitely had an interesting variety, and these solo albums helped to discover what each of the band members brought to the table, more or less. With all this being written, I have to say that I am more than confused how to vote. How about you, fellow PA-ers?

yeah, I did a similar poll years ago, but nice poll anyway.
Tough choice for me, I really love Roger's Amused to Death, Gilmour's first two albums and the two Rick Wright albums. No vote for now, it's a tough choice and I'll probably vote for an underdog.

It was a toss-up for David Gilmour and Broken China. I get more mileage out of the former, so it got my vote. About Face and Is This the Live We Want? are runners up.

Amused to Death was my favourite Roger Waters album by virtue of it being the only RW I liked enough to buy. I didn’t think he’d ever make an album as impressive as that, but for me (although I realise I am in a minority here), Is This The Life We Really Want? is even better.
And as much as I like albums by NM, DG and the other RW, I think I’m giving my vote to the aforementioned Waters album, just because it really impressed, and continues to impress, me. If that album had not been released, I’d probably go for Wright over Waters. Maybe. Perhaps. Good thing I don’t have to make up my mind! 😜 |

This is the Pink Floyd poll I've been waiting for! My vote goes to David Gilmour's "On an Island" with Richard Wright's Wet Dream a close second and Roger Waters' 2020 Us + Them DVD in third place.

Though I think Pink Floyd is a great, fantastic band, Their solo output has never reached a Master piece status for me. They are good of course, but they all seem to be missing something, at least to my taste.

I guess Ça Ira won't have a lot of votes. Gilmour's debut and Wet Dreams are those I spin more, but also Fictitious sports as I like Carla Bley. Well, honestly I like them all and currently I appreciate Identity as a prequel of Broken China. Nick Mason's new band is excellent, too.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

They miss the rest of the band. I remember a concert of the Australian Pink Floyd opened by Learning To Fly. At the end of the song I turned to a friend and we both had the same imnpression: it was the best version of that song we have listened to. Better than the studio version. The reason? The bass player arranged it as it was Waters. The Division Bell misses Waters as much as The Wall and the Final Cut miss Wright. Even on Animals which is completely a Waters' creature, they all contribute to the album. The absence of Wright first and of Waters later are the weaknesses of the following albums. Wet Dreams is partially saved by Snowy White on guitar and it's the one that sounds closer to a Pink Floyd album.

NM's Live at the Roundhouse. RW's Broken China would be my second choice followed by DG's debut.

Identity (1984) is not a Rick Wright solo album but a collaboration/project with a musician named Dave Harris. The band/project was called Zee.
Read someplace Rick later regretted making the album.

How has Syd not got a vote yet? My goodness!
Madcap Laughs > Gilmour s/t > Wet Dreams > Fictitious Sports Large gap to everything else. Live At The Roundhouse would have been up there but its essentials a outstanding cover band playing Floyd material. On An Island is pretty good, after that I'm not really a fan of any of Waters', Gilmour's, Mason's or Wright's solo work.

Amused to Death, pretty easily.
