The RPI well of talent certainly runs deep. I wouldn’t be surprised if the genre has influenced a lot of the classics. ![]() Also I should note that I have heard of Logos. They’re pretty amazing as well. Really enjoyed “ The Enigma of Life. “ It is a serious heavy hitter. |

Hey amici, if you collect vinyl you need to keep an eye on this label:
They are reissuing some classics from the master tapes with exquisite detail to the packaging. The Vinyl Magic and Ricordi / De Agostini Prog Rock Italiano LPs that have been released over the last few years are sourced from CDs and don't sound nearly as good. Find these! I have Ys and it sounds fabulous! I have Locanda delle Fate on order from Wayside in the US. Man I sure hope they do Rocky's Filj! I have an original Italian LP but I would love one that sounds cleaner with analog sources. The others I really hope they do are Jumbo DNA (same story as the Filj), Procession s/t (those go for 1k for an original... way too much for me!), and De De Lind (same story as Procession). The other classic LPs are available either in late 70s issues (especially the Big 3) or 80s Japanese pressings, which also used analog sources, all much more affordable than original pressings. Speaking of De Agostini, have you seen this? It's a release by Nuova Idea, originally from 1976, just now seeing the light of day! I love this band, especially Clowns and Mister E Jones. Here's a link to hear one song. I have mine on order from an Italian seller, should be delivered this week!

First couple of listens my brain had to adjust to the vocals because they're incredible. I think the title track has my favorite vocal lines and melodies; it all rules, though! I have them all stuck in my head and I have absolutely no idea if I'm even pronouncing or saying the correct words; THAT'S the power of music right there!

I felt like I could viscerally understand the meaning of the songs despite my extremely poor Italian, lol. Truly wonderful vocalist.

Today I revisited an old friend from the RPI glory days, a lesser-acclaimed one-off called Apoteosi. Many don't like this album, but I do. The context that should be understood is that this was not a professional and experienced touring band but rather a group of siblings who happened to be teenagers at the time they made their personal family opus. They could play well for sure, but they were no PFM. I love albums made by youth and by folks who weren't necessarily professionals. If you come at it with expectations in check, you may enjoy it. It does tend to meander, a frequent charge against it, but I love a little meandering if I'm enjoying the mood. Edited by Finnforest - December 28 2024 at 11:24 |

Apoteosi to me is another case of a 'diamond in the rough'. Their compositions are beautifully crafted, and you can hear that the performers, though still young, had serious chops. Yet, the album's finesse is sometimes a bit overshadowed by this sorta dry and unrefined feel to the recording and production.

^ Yep, agreed. The production is a tad strange, and "dry" is a good descriptor. It sure was fun to hear again. I really need to find my Metamorfosi and QVL again! It's been a long time.

Apoteosi in 1971, a few years before their official formation to make the album. They definitely started young! (LtoR: Silvana, Federico, Marcello, Massimo) -photo all rights Massimo Ida ![]() Edited by Finnforest - December 28 2024 at 14:22 |

Jim!!! So happy to see you here!
![]() I have not been on in quite a while, but still check the forum out now and then and saw your post and had to reply! I had a RPI weekend a few months back with Panna Freda, Campo di Marte, Semiramis, and a few of the big hitters, PFM, Le Orme, etc. Will need to revisit Apoteosi again, it has been awhile. Again, so good to see ya here, hope all is well! Edited by AEProgman - December 29 2024 at 18:28 |

Hey Jim!! Wow....the AENewman avatar I do remember! ![]() I wanted to write some reviews again just to see if I could remember how, and that led me to some cool stuff I hadn't heard before and it snowballed a bit. I had no plans to come back to the forums initially, but I dipped a toe here too. The RPI movement is a siren song for sure. I didn't play any for literally years and yet the the love comes right back. We'll see if it lasts. But I'm still alive....some days, I feel pretty rough, but Lord willin', I'll get a few more miles down the road. Cheers, bro. You're in the southeast, if I recall?

Another cool album I'm digging from a few years back....their two most recent albums are not exactly old school RPI, but they are insanely catchy. |
