I don't know how many of you are familiar with this great song (originally by Violeta Parra) arranged in a bolero style by historic Chilean band Los Jaivas. The whole album Obras de Violeta Parra is highly recommended, especially to those who like South American prog with folk influences: |

Wouldn't surprise me if Ravel was an influence on Holst, though I couldn't find any direct evidence (only that Schoenberg was). But also, as I listen to the Triangle again, the song structure (of building and repetitiveness) is more Ravel-bolero-like than Holst-Mars-like, at least to my ears. Definitely more ominous and war-like though, than any of the others.

I love all of the listed Bolero variations that you have listed, but my favorite is the Zappa version, so I give him the sole vote (so far anyway).

Love that Jaivas song. The entire album is pretty amazing.

I'm a big fan of this one too. It is actually edited out on some albums, something to do with copyright laws I think. BTW, the "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" section is a cover too, for those that didn't know that.

Unfortunately, I don’t think their Bolero was ever released on an album. It was a single only release, as far as I can tell. Glad you liked it, though. I almost voted for it myself. |

For me, Bolero by King Crimson... though I don't hear much similarity to Ravel's Bolero, besides the name.

And besides that, if we are talking about King Crimson and their adaptation of Mars, I prefer the live ones when they still called it Mars, over the studio The Devil's Triangle. |

I was listening to Detieti today, and Ravel's Bolero appears within the Cocaintro to their 2018 album, Frogressive Punk. Make of it what you will. I quite like this band, but definitely others may not be so enamoured....

KC's The Devil Triangle. It's actually a terrible bolero but a great song.

Song "Armada" by Australian band Rainbow Theatre contains "Bolero" section (hmm... which sounds veeery familiar
![]() or in not so good quality Generally both of their 2 albums are very interesting - with original style mixing rich jazz arrangements (sax, trombone, French Horn, Cornet), eclectic sections, trimphant religious themes, expressive vocals and symphonic prog.
