I know all of these albums except for "Spring". My vote goes to Grobschnitt.

Ha! I know all of these albums. And my vote goes to Zarathustra.

Know 6 > no vote. Grobschnitt would've grabbed it.

Don't feel bad. Neither can I.Wink I'm really only familiar with the Eloy, Banco and Grobschnitt albums.

Ah, I'm entitled to vote... I know exactly 8 of these (Spring and Far East Family Band are unknown to me) and own five. Not difficult to vote: Grobschnitt - Solar Music Live. Closely followed by Eloy, and a bit further away, Banco and Triumvirat (still very good albums...).

BTW, I think that more than half of these are not that obscure either...

I know exactly 8. Close call. Went with Museo Rosenbach. Triumvirat would be my second choice, followed by Eloy, Gnidrolog, and Banco.

For true prog fans they aren't or at least shouldn't be. Most should have at least heard of most of these. That said, I think they all still qualify as "lesser known." When I said "not too obvious" I just meant not Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Pink Floyd, Rush, etc. Actually no band on here is even as well known as VDGG, Camel, GG, Focus, Nektar etc but they are still known by collectors of lesser known seventies prog. Those who are spending all their time looking for stuff that sounds like Haken, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, the Mars Volta, Dream Theater, Riverside, etc probably won't encounter most of these. However, for those wanting to go beyond the big names from the seventies but still want to hear what else came out in the old days this list would make a very good starting point as would the bands and albums on the supernatural fairy tales boxset.

For those who don't know, the Far East Family Band were considered to be the Japanese Pink Floyd and at one point had among their members a keyboard player who later went by the name Kitaro.

^ Completely agree. I was actually more referring to the article you linked to in your OP: "10 prog-rock obscurities." A title like that tells more about the person using it than about the music that is talked about...

Oh I see. Well, I think maybe they were just trying to entice those who maybe only know the big six to take a peek. They are obscure to those who know nothing or very little about prog but not to us. Wink I think it's all about your perspective and your musical knowledge.
