I love Dave Gilmour's Rattle That Lock. That's a 5-star album for me. ![]() I also like Mike Oldfield's 4-star Voyager album. King Crimson's 2-star THRAK album definitely gets the thumbs down from me though. ![]() I haven't heard the other five albums in your list, which is probably a good thing.

^THRaKaTTaK is a live album of material from around the time of THRAK, but I suppose that would mean you'd probably dislike that one too Paul.

Thanks for the info about King Crimson's THRaKaTTaK album, which I hadn't heard of before, and I have The Power to Believe you're right when you say I won't like the live THRAK album either.

David Bowie - Hours. It was hailed as a sort of comeback when it came out in 1999, but I found it incredibly boring. I'd rather listen to weak 80's albums like Tonight or Never Let Me Down. The reception is even more strange considering that a much more forward thinking album such as 1. Outside never got the credit it deserves.

David Bowie's Earthling album was the one I really disliked, mainly because of the awful drum & bass machine sound.

But at least he tried out things on Earthling, such as drum and bass music (whether or not one likes that type of music is another story - it's not so much my thing, but I acknowledge its qualities). On Hours it doesn't sound to me like he is trying anything.

^ I listened to all of David Bowie's albums last year, but I don't recall the Hours album at all, which probably indicates it's a very forgettable album.

Love Breathless too. Mine are: 10) Renaissance: Camera, Camera (they should have stuck to what they were good at) 9) Yes: 90125 (no Steve Howe, no Yes) 8) Genesis: Invisible Touch (disco Genesis with drum machines blaring, We Can't Dance a great improvement) 7) Pink Floyd (or should I say Roger Waters): Final Cut (mostly for the politics) 6) Dream Theater: Metropolis Part 2 (music designed to bore you to death) 5) The Flower Kings: The Sum of No Evil (as above) 4) Transatlantic: The Whirlwind (as above - with contributions from members of the above two bands - honorable mention to Neal Morse for Testimony parts one and two) 3) Gryphon: Treason (when you can't think of anything imitate Yes) 2) Marillion: Less is More (when you don't have any new material) 1) Electric Light Orchestra: Eldorado (one song album stretched out to 40 minutes with the padding)

Less Is More is sort of Marillion unplugged, should not bother anyone, take it as it is, I find it enjoyable and even relaxing at times. "when you don't have any new material"?! - they had released a double album the year before. ![]() Edited by Cristi - October 30 2021 at 16:10 |

I totally agree with you about King Crimson's Discipline album and In the Hot Seat is also my least favourite ELP album.

I'm afraid The Dreaming is only a poor 2-star album for me, but on a positive note, Hounds of Love, Aerial & 50 Words for Snow are all 5-star favourites.

It's a daring adventurous album. We should expect that some hate it...

There's No Jacket Required to take part in this thread, so if Phil Collins wants to gain entry, he can do, even if it's Against All Odds at Face Value.
