This is going to be a tough one...

For my nomination I had difficulty to choose between the tremendous Anna Calvi and the brilliant An Pierlé. Since the former is already better known (at least in France and I guess in the UK too), and the latter deserves to be better known, I nominate: An Pierlé - Helium Sunset.

Icarium's suggestion, first listen

Polly Scattergood “Silk Roses”  Slow building song, with whispery vocals, another ominous track.  Her lover has given her silk roses, which just makes her think that their relationship also isn’t real, mentions of the desert (her personal emptiness).  She’d rather having nothing there than a reminder that the relationship is about as real as the silk flowers.

My nomination is

Francesca Lago : Bring the Noise

(thanks to Snicolette and Mike)
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

My pick is Barbara Morgenstern Angel's Whisper. I'd love to have Laura Veirs also in the race, but unfortunately it can only be one...
Not enough time to listen this time, sorry - at some point I'll go through the whole suggestions playlist for sure, I have already heard some great stuff, but it'll be too late to help anyone deciding...

No worries.  Looking forward to hearing more that you've brought to the table, so to speak.  Edited to add (unless you've done so already) you could certainly add a Polly Scattergood song if you wish, or suggest a specific one from this Spotify link.

[/QUOTE] I will then suggest the song Silk Roses from her 2020 release "In This Moment" https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=69ONzT39IqY

First thoughts on Triptych's entries and more from rogerthat:

Triptych: Aimee Mann “Humpty Dumpty”  Of course her voice is very familiar to me, because of the hit material, but haven’t heard this one. (Love John Tenniel’s “Alice” illustrations by the way).  Here she sings of two people, she, who is too broken to make this work, and the other person in her life, in a fairly alt/rock setting.   She warns the other person that she’s irreparable, really a good subjective look, using the Humpty Dumpty imagery.  Heather Nova “London Rain”  Can’t vote for this one, since I know it, but you know already that I enjoy her work.  Pretty guitar, too. 😊  Sheryl Crow “Tomorrow Never Dies”  Huge hit songwriter of course, this time for a Bond soundtrack.   Good song for the purpose, and right in the pocket for a Bond film.  but I like your Aimee Mann selection the best (since I withhold a vote for familiarity with Heather’s song).

rogerthat:r  Two more from Lianne La Havas:  “Read My Mind” She’s got such a sweet voice.  More upbeat than the first one, I like the plinky things in the background, hope this one didn’t turn out to be who she wrote “Courage,” about.  Very catchy.  “Bittersweet”  Uh oh….just the title, now let’s see what’s going on with her now.  Just love her voice, even though these are all very different from what I listen to, normally.  Here, of course, love has gone wrong again, but this time she’s the one who’s gotten tepid.
