I find that often the worst offenders Avant, Zehul and Krautrock fans tbh, I like all those genres, i'm just a fan of music. I love prog, pop, hip hop, folk, classical, jazz, Death Metal etc etc. If you don't like something just don't listen to it and don't go on a rampage trying to tear it down for people who do. I'll never understand people who go out of their way to hate on particular albums, some people just listen to music actively looking for something to dislike. What can you do? I knew a guy who refused to listen to any alternative rock because he didn't want to "associate with alternative rock fans," and refused to listen to anything I recommended him, including Camel, Hatfield, National Health because he said he couldn't enjoy anything unless he discovered it "organically." The irony was that he always raved about how great Egg and Dave Stewart was... the irony, dropped that clown as a friend.
Just accept that lots of people are ok with just being casual music fans and listening to whatever's popular or easy to listen to, nothing wrong with that. We all hear music differently and we all listen to music looking for different stuff out of it. Just appreciate this gift from the heavens and don't be "that guy."

I have found prog fans in the main to be non snobby. In fact compared to say Dylan fans or classical fans they are the salt of the earth guv.

It's all a matter of personal opinions. Some think we are great, smart people, other think the opposite, just like we think the same about others.

TBH I don't think prog rock fans are snobbish enough.
Personally: not only do I despise all music that isn't prog, I also despise all prog that isn't RIO / avant, and all RIO / avant that isn't made by dedicated Marxists, and all RIO / avant that's made by the wrong kind of Marxists, and all RIO / avant that's made by the right kind of Marxists, but doesn't feature the bassoon. It makes life so much simpler...

Hardly a monopoly of progheads, IMHO. Plenty of punkheads or rapheads feel the same way

It's not that we are snobs - we are superior music listeners and cannot help it if we try to enlighten the unwashed masses. It is THEIR failure. We are the victims here.

I think we are mutants that have an undiscovered gland that secretes dopamine every time we hear music with shifting time signatures that persists for 7 minutes or more. But that's just me.
