Thanks, Steve, and I will return the compliment. Nicest thing anyone has said about me here. Embarrassed
First time on the forum has ever called me by my real name, which is good; though it was highly amusing seeing people call me Father Christmas. Wink

I have an interesting question for those following this thread. I'm wondering if a band like the Fixx were to come out today would they be considered neo prog or crossover prog? Or any other band similar to them(although I can't think of many off the top  of my head). I mention that particular band because I remember a long time ago someone saying he thought they were prog.

They're very good bands. However, you've made your classic mistake when coming to neo...

Music becomes a lot more enjoyable when you stop looking at genres as black and white and begin to understand that a relatively vague genre label like "Neo Prog" is not one size fits all. It's full of extremely varying styles and there's probably something for you in the mix. My only advice would be 1: Dont listen to music actively looking for something to dislike 2: Multiple Listens **** especially for Neo Prog which for me tends to be a slowburn/grower type of music.

Thomas A. Anderson... (I belileve Paul is the "secret" one: Neo)

Paul: Please save us from the mahcinations of the machines, and help us build a Neopolis; a peaceful and quiet one. Then you'll be the NeoPaulis of the Neopolis. A legend. Please do remember, you're the only ONE that can break Agent Smith to Smithereens.

You know? Ancient wisdom, saviours, prophecies and all that stuff...

P.S. Just kidding. I like Paul as a member here. I *sometimes* like the reflections of his peculiar mindset too, like I did here.

I like them because I like their songwriting, liking a few neo-prog bands has got nothing to do with liking a band like The Fixx. Confused

No, I think there are similarities because of the emphasis on keyboards. It could even be argued that the new wave bands were more progressive than the neo prog bands because it could be said that the neo prog bands were just rehashing what had already been done when the new wave bands really weren't. To say(or imply) new wave stuff like the Fixx or other similar bands weren't progressive but thinking neo prog was is kind of narrow imo. It's all about labels. Neo prog while I like it is really just progressive in name only.

Bands like The Fixx were pretty straight forward. I would classify The Fixx as pop-rock, but then again that's me.
Neo-prog had longer compositions, keyboards for solos and atmosphere, guitar solos, etc. Listen to Marillion - Incubus and then The Fixx - One Thing leads to Another. See the difference. Both songs I love.
