As a kid: Jethro is funny, Zeppelin = lots of love songs, bleh! As a 13-year old: Led Zeppelin is the best fricking thing under the sun, period High school: Led Zeppelin still rules, but I need prog again Graduate: Jethro Tull's catalogue is so deep it's mindblowing Now: LZ for summer, JT for winter, other seasons are tossup. Going to vote for Led Zeppelin as they fell behind too much for my taste.

I was going with the gut when I voted for Zepp, but I guess you have just described why I didn't vote for Tull... getting tired of the album by the end of it. However, the way I listen to Tull (and most bands), even though you may disagree because of how you like to respect what the bands where trying to do, is listening to a list of my very favourite songs, and in the case of Tull, they are mostly live songs, which to me sound much more energetic and powerful than the studio originals. |

Well I've been a Tull fan for 40 years they were one of the first prog bands I ever got right into so I voted for Tull ... no disrespect to Led Zeppelin who are a legendary band.

Love them both but I think I'll go for LZ.

I remember sl*g.ing off Tull to a flatmate whilst at Uni, and he threw a tin of baked beans at me. Could've done serious damage (he was a massive fan). I can see why he was such a devotee now that I'm older and less tribal about these things, but Led Zep have been with me for life, one of the few bands that I've listened to on and off for 40+ years. I now realise that Physical Graffiti and LZ3 are better albums than 4, but they are still a great band. And still a class above Tull.

Led Zeppelin by a long shot. The influence of Zeppelin is off the charts, JTull is never in those discussions and doubt ever will be. We all love Tull, heck Aqualung is a masterpiece and I don't think Zeppelin recorded a masterpiece, IV comes close.
But how Led Zeppelin hit the world of music and changed how instruments were played and rock music sounds today is pretty much due to the influence of Led Zeppelin....Hammer of the Gods.

Oy-- it's called character, soul, austerity. Perfect playing is incredibly dull. Both Page & Plant understood that and worked hard to preserve the ragged, imperfect humanity that was so crucial to their music. Maybe someday you'll appreciate that. Page overrated? Of course he was, along with Bonham, Plant and Jones-- not to mention Tony Iommi, Jeff Beck, Hendrix, Johnny Winter . . . For crying out loud. |

I like it as well but then I like ELP so my opinion is probably invalid ![]() (and the connection is that Emerson bought the Yamaha GX1 that JPJ used on that album after his own was destroyed in a freak accident)

They sound American because, like all British rock bands born of the '60s, they learned everything they knew from Elvis, Howlin' Wolf, Little Richard, Otis Redding, and Jimi Hendrix. Edited by Atavachron - May 26 2020 at 16:31 |

Well, my favorites are Physical Graffiti and ZoSo, both were a huge deal in my early teens. And I do like the acoustic aspects of III. The rest I really don't listen to much anymore.

Oh there's a huge majority who think that-- they also hate Presence. Not a fanbase I put much stock in (these are the same people who think ZoSo is their best). Edited by Atavachron - May 26 2020 at 15:45 |

Yeah...no. Sorry David, can't stand Up the Down Escalator. The worst Zeppelin album by about 10 light years. And having read other poster's comments through the years, there's a large majority who think Led Zep fell off a cliff on that one.

Not only is ITtOD one of their best albums, it has the best studio drum sound Bonham & Page ever attained. It is a beautiful, elegant record of a band unwilling to repeat themselves. Edited by Atavachron - May 26 2020 at 15:09 |

Bonham heard the finished product of In Through the Out Door and died of embarrassment.
