I've never heard of Anna Murphy, so I googled her, so no wonder I don't know who she is, I don't listen to Eluveitie

not just the best best vocalists in prog..  but all of rock.

3a) 3b)Richard Sinclair and David Sylvian

I mean seriously man... you have to be one of them long haired pinko types with a commie flag tacked up on  the wall of your garage.. a real snake in the grass I tell ya guys to not think that either of them ..could make singing the f**king yellow pages mandatory listening

5) Jack Bruce.. sure he is probably only behind Jamerson and Entwistle as the greatest bassist to have ever played.. but I love.. absolutely love his voice. Completely underrated as a singer. Be in slow songs... or hard and heavy

Quite agree but can we get David Gilmour in there too. 5b perhaps?

I won't even try to cut it down to 5, but these are among my favourite pop/rock singers. They are not necessarily technical virtuosos, but I love them for their unique and personal vocal expression.

John Lennon
Paul McCartney
Mick Jagger
Jim Morrison
Janis Joplin
Grace Slick
Marvin Gaye
Stevie Wonder
Freddie Mercury
David Bowie
Joni Mitchell
Joe Strummer (technically he's not very good, but his singing is perfect for its music - raw and unpolished)
David Byrne
Michael Stipe
Nick Cave
Johnny Cash

Hard rock screamers are for most part not my thing, however, I really like Ian Gillan

1. P J Harvey
2. Jukka Gustavson
3. Howlin`Wolf
4. Tom Waits
5. Greg Lake

This was really hard, there are just so many so great...I just had to take Howlin`instead of Beefheart, just because Captain owns so much to him...

In your list there are lots of vocalists I also really like, I think Stipe is the only one I think quite mediocre as vocalist (but not bad in any way). I am a huge fan of Jagger, Morrison, Cave & Cash!
