I'll play: tales - 4 a strong 4 almost 5 i, robot - 5 their best pyramid - 3 only a couple of songs do it for me eve -4 this and pyramid have switched places over the decades friendly card -5 excellent eye in the sky - 4 near five don't like step by step and gonna get you're fingers burned ammonia avenue - 4 another strong album vulture culture - 4 love the vocals here , some of the drum sounds keep it from being a 5 stereotomy - 3 love the instrumentals, the title track and beaujolais. gaudi - 3 like all APP some excellent tracks, but this has some weeker ones. Out with a wimper. Their weekest album IMHO Freudiana - 4 not APP but almost as it started life as the 11th album. Broadway, pop, rock, a little prog . very interesting keep going to the AP solo try anything once - 4 reallly like this one . A track or two shorter and it would have been a 5 on air - 3 this a time machine together could have made a killer album. too much filler on both time machine - 3 valid path - 3 AP goes electronica with middling results. remove one of his sons 2 tracks and add an original and it might be a 4. the secret -4 really love this album. near 5 , I hope he has 1 more left in the tank

Tales of Mystery and Imagination (4.5/5) is the best. I place Freudiana (actually an Eric Woolfson album) second (4+/5). Eye in the Sky and The Turn of a Friendly Card are also good.

I've listened to The Sicilian Defence and it sounds to me like a demo album without vocals, so I didn't even bother rating it.

I don't give numeric ratings but now I know that you can simply hotlink Progarchives star rating images in the forum like so:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That's kinda cool. :) So anyway, back onto the topic. I've only listened to a handful of APP albums. But anyway, here are my mini reviews/notes. Tales... - Solid album but there's some filler. I Robot - Much more even quality-wise but a bit less prog than Tales. Pyramid - I really like the keyboard work on this record. Also, Dave Patton's bass is superb. This album's even less prog than its predecessors but it's good. Ammonia Avenue - It's a fully pop album but it's not that bad. Don't Answer Me is one of my favorite songs of '84. Sicilian Defense - A total disaster. I mean, what even is this? Edited by Hrychu - June 17 2020 at 12:44 |

^^ My star ratings aren't exactly hot links. I just copied and pasted them into the forum.
![]() Would you like to see more threads like this one where we collectively give the traditional PA star ratings out of five for a band's complete studio album discography? Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 17 2020 at 13:22 |

A good compilation suffices. I don't get the debut album at all. There is just nothing memorable about it. Pyramid is about the only thing that scrapes a 4 star rating in my book. I like a lot of the radio friendly songs though. Eye In The Sky is weird, creepy and 'stalkerish' but just works!

Tales of Mystery and Imagination has always been my favourite APP album by far, although I still haven't managed to buy it on CD, so that may be why my emoji is looking a bit Poe-faced. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
