My belief is that Styx aren't good. Don't mind whether they are prog. Like some Kansas though.

And yet they still blew Yes off the stage when I saw them open for them in 2011.

By then the real Yes was on life support.

They still are(if they can still be called the "real" Yes).

Not that this would happen but what if Anderson rejoined?

You could have Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe, but no Yes.

That doesn't really answer my question. Besides we already had ABWH.

I did answer your question. Yes ceased to exist when Chris Squire died.

So it's only Yes if Squire is/was in the band? Anderson was an original member too you know.

Man so much Styx hate, I think pieces of eight and grand illusion are really solid albums, especially the former. Sure Kansas is better imo but Styx wasn’t bad until cornerstone, but tbh, Kilroy is what really ruined them.

When Squire departed, he took the Yes name with him. Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe were the result -- NOT Yes. (Bass was handled by Tony Levin on studio album and Jeff Berlin on the tour). Ergo, no Squire, no Yes.

The early Kansas albums were very good (first 5 + the live album). Thought Styx would be contenders when I heard The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight, but I was let down after that.

I have only Leftoverture, spun once. Unremarkable thus mothballed. I have grand Illusion and peices of eight. These were more palatable to me 20 years ago....I really cannot stand the boy band singing style...it is truly awful....my wifes friend likes styx! She is not into any prog whatsoever...that is the smoking gun!

I disagree. First of all I was not and am not talking about ABWH. That has nothing to do with this conversation afaic. Different animal and not relevant to the point I'm trying to make. The bottom line is Jon Anderson co-owned the rights(along with Squire) to use the Yes name. If that was not the case then it wouldn't have been Yes featuring ARW when he worked with Trevor and Rick. So in theory, if the current Yes which admittedly is descended from the Squire Yes ceased to exist Jon could hire whoever he wanted and call it Yes with no legal consequences. This is a fact. The only thing that might stand in his way regarding that would be Chris Squire's widow but I doubt she would take him to court since legally like I said Jon has a right to use the Yes name(I don't think he ever relinquished that or else like I said there wouldn't have been a Yes featuring ARW at one point). I hope this clears things up. As for ABWH(since you mentioned it) it was Jon Anderson who departed not Squire. After ABWH Jon was eventually back in the band for Union and then later for Talk and stayed in the band until 2004 when he got sick. Maybe you need to brush up on your Yes history.

What it clears up is you totally ignored what I wrote. Yes "featuring" whoever is not legally Yes. On top of that, without Squire it's more of a Yes tribute band, musically speaking. I have laid out my reasoning, go ahead and tell me I'm wrong. I'm done with this topic. |

I added more after my first edit.
They only did the Yes featuring ARW to avoid confusion. Again, like I said if this Yes fell apart Jon could reassemble Yes with no legal ramifications. https://ultimateclassicrock.com/yes-band-name-ownership/ Done with this topic? Lol. Fine by me. You didn't pay attention to what I was saying either(which is what you accused me of)but either way no skin off my back. Anyway, facts are facts. Jon owns rights to the Yes name and that's not up for debate. This is supposed to be about Styx and Kansas anyway.
