OK, so this takes some effort (and time), but I thoroughly enjoyed doing it, and am currently listening to these albums in chronological order, which is just brilliant!  And I'm interested to see other people's lists.

BTW, it's not what you were listening to at the time (although some will be), it's your favourite album from these years, as of now...

So here's mine:

1970  Trespass  Genesis
1971  Nursery Cryme  Genesis
1972  Thick As A Brick  Jethro Tull
1973  Selling England By The Pound  Genesis
1974  Hergest Ridge  Mike Oldfield
1975  Wish You Were Here  Pink Floyd
1976  Trick Of The Tail  Genesis
1977  A Farewell To Kings  Rush
1978  War Of The Worlds  Jeff Wayne
1979  The Wall  Pink Floyd

1980  Permanent Waves  Rush
1981  Moving Pictures. Rush

1995  Afraid Of Sunlight  Marillion
1996  Down On The Upside  Soundgarden
1997  Subterranea  IQ

2005  Octavarium  Dream Theater
2006  Milliontown  Frost*
2007  Dark Passion Play  Nightwish

2010  In The Wake Of Evolution  Kaipa
2011  The King Of Number 33  Deexpus
2012  Weather Systems  Anathema
2013  The Theory Of Everything  Ayreon
2014  The Road Of Bones  IQ
2015  Endless Forms Most Beautiful  Nightwish

There's a hell of a lot of great albums missing out here of course!  And some years were very tough (1987/1989/2008 particularly)

Come on, have a go, you know you want toSmile

2019 - Foreign Land, The Far Meadow

A bummer that I couldn't start from 1966...

Don't think I could do this. The field between about 68 and 73 would be impossibly crowded, and definitely not just by prog artists.

Too old to play this game...from 1951-62...I didn't pay attention to music that much, and  I wasn't even really aware of 'pop' or 'rock' until  1963 when The Beatles first released a US single...and of course early pop and r&b by other artists .....so 'favorite' album is a misnomer since most of us didn't listen to music when we were that young to know a 'favorite'. And far too many non prog reg rock  things to go through all those other years....

That's it. I give up.

Didn't know this was about prog! Besides, Kind of Blue (1958) is in the Archives!

Also, according to OP, it's about what albums you would pick now to represent each of the years of your life.

Again: It's about what albums you appreciate now that you'd pick for each year of your life.

Believe me, I was not listening to Miles, Dex, Monk, or 'Trane in my early childhood! (Nor were my parents.)

Well, I'm not as old as some on here. I was born in 1970 which seems to be right around the time when prog was starting to put itself on the musical map and gain more attention in more than just a cult way(which seems to be where it sort of is these days also. Lol).

My issue is I haven't really heard enough prog to comfortably do one for every year. If I just was going to do random albums then I could possibly do it but my expertise on albums is lacking somewhat so I would rather just be a spectator here.
