which of these bands do you think developed the better overall band mythology?

Magma's mythology is quite in depth, and relates the tales of the planet Kobaia (over the course of many great Zeuhl albums) and its relations with Earth, and is highly socially consious and entertaining.  And to top it off, it is written entirely in Kobaian, a language invented by Magma/Christian Vander(drummer) for the band's albums.  Zany stuff.

Then we get to Gong, a crazy Space-Jazz-Fusion led by guitarist/vocalist Daevid Allen (ex Soft Machine).  GonG's album's tell Allen's crazy tales of the Pot Head Pixies, the Radio Gnomes, and Flying Teapots from an invisible planet, and Zero the Hero.  Etc. etc.  All very druggy but fun stuff, much lighter than Magma.

I enjoy both but think GonG has the better mythology going, its just so funny when you get into it, and its actually english, so you can get into it, but I reccomend both.

So vote, and post if i've missed anyone, or thing.

crazy prog stuff to be sure!

Musicaly I prefer Magma, Both MDK as Kobaia are great albums.

Also Magma's "irrelevant" lyrics (the voice as instrument, and the lyrics just a representation of the sound they intended to create with the vocal) creates a very special atmosphere all together.

Gong is great, I like both psychedelic atmospheric parts, as wel as their nice humour.

In regard to the storie, in both cases it's quite irrelevant to me, both bands create a very hypnothising atmospheric kind of music, so i will go for the band I like better, which is Magma, but I do like Gong very much, especially You from the Radio Gnome trilogie
