I just saw "Tower".

Not entirely animated, it depicts the shootings that took place at the University of Texas tower building in 1966 mixing animation with real footage and testimonies of those who survived the tragedy.

Highly recommendable.

"The Secret of N.I.M.H" is my all time favourite animated movie. Timless and so wonderfully made. Don Bluth at hes best.

Couldn't agree more. I didn't include it here, but it is in one of my 80s movies lists.

Beautiful movie.

I think that you'll be very moved by When the Wind Blows if you see it -- beautiful and quite devastating (has music by Roger Waters, by the way, feature song sung by Bowie and features Genesis' The Brazilian in the soundtrack). I rarely sob in films...

Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is a particular Ghibli fave of mine too, and loved The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

By the way, if you haven't seen the TV animated, Japanese series Death Note and it is available to you, I absolutely loved it. I;m guessing you've seen Akira. On another note, Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings had a big impact on me growing up.

So Akira is, missed it somehow. No worse, I forgot despite having looked over your list carefully (lack of sleep over a long period). I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop. When the Wind Blows can be very depressing indeed (double-bill it with the Japanese live action film Black Rain (Kuroi ame))..

One of my particular favourites on your list is The Plague Dogs (I do seem to go for a lot of depressing or disturbing stuff). Various on your list would have surely made my list had I done this poll (three of yours I haven't seen).

Your poll is more popular, mine only got seven votes (and this place was busier back then), we have some overlap. Looking back on it, I always find it really depressing when people can't find anything to like or be interested in looking into lists of my favourites and only mention others.... I then think, I'm leaving this site for good, yet I persist here. I came closest to leaving when I did an 80s Cinema Fantastique poll of my favourites and someone went "other" with Karate Kid. I died a little inside that day. ;)

Voted for Heavy Metal, it's like over 30 years ago that I saw it but I remember I had some good laughs.

Hernan did mention that he hasn't seen Lord of the Rings, so that one one couldn't expect (I'm assuming that these are all ones that he knows and likes). As for Wizards, I wouldn't assume that he has seen it either (my old list had Bakshi's Fritz the Cat and Lord of the Rings, but not Wizards -- had seen it before, but hadn't thought of immediately). Only reason Fritz made my list is because of nostalgia (watched it with a bunch of friends when I was 13).

When I do such polls, it's not about what's best, it's about what I think of that I have watched and really enjoyed.   I think that there's lots of quality in this list, and if one couldn't find one to say positive things about, then one likely isn't familiar with the majority.

I voted for Fantasia, its a piece of fine art combined with boundery breaking animation. One of the most ambitious animated movies. It celebrates eightyeth anniversary next year.
