Far across the ocean
In the land of look and see There once was a time For you and me Where the winds blow sweetly And the easy seas flow still And where the barefoot dream of life Can laugh and cry its fill I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all Many times I've often prayed In the darkness of my night In the brightness of my day So, if you're travelin' in the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Please remember me to one who lives there For she once was a true love of mine That never ever wore disguise And never ever saw blue skies Who quickly lived now slowly dies Who closed unopened otherwise Well you can lead a horse to water But you're never gonna make him drink... Great to share some Roy Love!! Here's a little thing from my collection; a 'still' from the film he starred in in the mid 70's called 'Made' Edited by Cosmiclawnmower - September 16 2018 at 15:17 |

I dozed off for most of the afternoon with Stormcock on repeat...a beautifully somnolent, unproductive day.
I never know what kind of day it is on my battlefield of ideals But the way she touches and the way it feels, must be just how it heals And it's got a little better since I let her sundance I never know what time of year it is living on top of the fire But the robin outside has to hunt and hide in the cold frosty shire Ah but he knows just what goes in between his cold toes and his warm ears And he's got no disguise in his eyes for his love as she nears... |

Sounds like absolute Heaven! I must try and fit more of that in my life Me & my Woman just gives me goose-pimples every time. I think I should set up a Roy Harper appreciation page so the man and his music can be explored further..

"Sound out the galleon to travel to cross
close the space between pastures as rightly attained. As old stands to plunder expectant as one dear companion can utter the right we achieve. Climb summer mornings and tell me of days past did we all to sing of the praises of love And is one hand raised high in the dark. Total relating appointed close factors of what we regard as the answer lies there, and is one hand raised high in the dark. There stands Olias to outward to build a ship Holding within all we hope to retain. The frame will be so built to challenge the universe clasped with the skins of the fish of the plain. Mastered volcano erupt with the pleasure and sing to the power, we will sail to the East, and all hands shall rise to the call" |

The BBC tapes vol.2 playing right now...so good, man. How come I haven't listened to any Roy (except Stormcock once in a while) in the last ten years is beyond me.
I owe you a pint (or 6), brother Lawnmower. Cheers! And the big lady I'm playing with Has played a game of poker With me and cat and this and that Until she scored my joker Now we ride in chariots By the side of one another Her soft side My rough ride Nothing to fear The unknown soldier's grave is already here Is it too late To create A world made with care? GD (meaning 'god-damn') right! Me too (I was 12 years old in 1971). The lyrics from 'Yes-Roundabout.' Probably one of the first 'prog' songs that got me into "prog"...

"When the day is done and the ball has spun in the umpires pocket away
And all remains in the groundsman's pains for the rest of time and a day There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for four with the spin On a dusty pitch with two pounds six of willow wood in the sun When an old cricketer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone If sometimes you're catching a fleeting glimpse of a twelfth man at silly Mid-on And it could be Geoff and it could be John with a new ball sting in his tail And it could be me and it could be thee and it could be the sting in the ale, sting in the ale When an old cricketer leaves the crease, well you never know whether he's gone If sometimes you're catching a fleeting glimpse of a twelfth man at silly Mid-on And it could be Geoff and it could be John with a new ball sting in his tail And it could be me and it could be thee and it could be the sting in the ale, sting in the ale When the moment comes and the gathering stands and the clock turns back to reflect On the years of grace as those footsteps trace for the last time out of the act Well this way of life's recollection, the hallowed strip in the haze The fabled men and the noonday sun are much more than just yarns of their days When an old cricketer leaves the crease, well you never know whether he's gone If sometimes you're catching a fleeting glimpse of a twelfth man at silly Mid-on And it could be Geoff and it could be John with a new ball sting in his tail And it could be me and it could be thee and it could be the sting in the ale, the sting in the ale When an old cricketer leaves the crease, well you never know whether he's gone If sometimes you're catching a fleeting glimpse of a twelfth man at silly Mid-on And it could be Geoff and it could be John with a new ball sting in his tail And it could be me and it could be thee" I'm big on English melancholy and nostalgia these days (bit of an age thing!) - so these favourite lyrics seem to mean more each year (with Cooke's retirement in the last test series). Great to see main man Barbu enjoying Roy's back catalogue again - but always wondered how lyrics involving Geoff Boycott and John Snow go down with our transatlantic cousins in Canada and the USA? By the way... loved listening to Tom Tiddler's Ground the other day - prompted purely by recent posts by Cosmiclawnmower and Barbu. This is what PA does so well - reawaken our musical memories or pointing the way for the newbies! |

^ Gentleman.
and no, I had no idea who are Geoff and John. No idea either who's the critic he's talking about in Hors d'Oeuvres but it doesn't really matter to me, that segment is always quite hilarious. |

We are the new Kings
Sailing our seas of diamonds and gold We are the new Kings Seldom seen, elsewhere and unknown We are the new Kings Buying up London from Monaco We do as we please While you do as you're told... |

I got the answers to all of your questions if you've got the money to pay me in gold
I will be living in old Monte Carlo and you will be reading the secrets I sold Daggers and contacts and bright shiny limos I've got a watch that turns into a lifeboat Glimmering nightgowns poisonous as cobras silencer under the heel of my shoe The elegance of China they sent her to lie here on her back But as she deeply moves me she'd rather shoot me in my tracks And while a middle Asian lady she really came as no surprise But I still did destroy her and I will smash halo of flies I crossed the ocean where no one could see and I put a time bomb in your submarine Goodbye to old friends the secret's in hand with phonied up papers and counterfeit plans You never will understand |

I can remember, back in '22
They changed the law, came knocking on the door In that same moment, the broadband seemed to go.. Phones all dead. Gone dizzy in the head.. La la la Next thing y'know They put us on a transport to the stars So we're orbitting the earth together And, right now, slightly to the left of Mars.. It's all so clear... We can see the madness perfectly from here! |
