I very much have to second this. Nexus was on the only album, Imo, that actually had a catch of good songs.

Shocked at some of these opinions!!!!

Genesis
King Crimson
Big Big Train
Haken
Radiohead
Brian Eno

All considered by some as bands with one good song. WTF!?!?!

I expected the usual one hit wonder entries (Argent, for example, makes sense) but seriously?

I just can't...

WUT?

I was a huge Radiohead fan some time ago (got into prog by stumbling over a Kid A review of a German prog website), today I consider them, to speak with the words of this site, "good but non-essential". However, out of all their songs, "Creep" would be among my last picks for their best.

Some people don't like King Crimson. Some people don't like pistachio ice cream. It takes all sorts to make a world.

I mean personally I think all of those people should be put to death. But that's just me.

Ah, so contrary views are not tolerated here.
Personally, I think King Crimson are pretentious and border on unlistenable, but clearly I'm not allowed that view since King Crimson have to be placed on a pedestal.

I can't speak for SteveG, but I meant that as a joke since I was told the exact same words earlier in this thread for stating that Genesis have only one good song. Of course you are allowed to dislike King Crimson if you want to (although I feel very sorry for you then).

I don't have very many bands like this. Plenty of bands where I prefer one or two albums far more than any of their others, but for the most part if I love one song an artist has done, I'll almost always find others by them that I enjoy a lot too. With that said, there is one that comes to mind (not restricting myself to prog):

Head East - Never Been Any Reason
when i was a kid a doller was worth ten dollers - now a doller couldnt even buy you fifty cents

I don't think that most people in this thread are suggesting that they only have one good song, but rather that the bands only have one amazing song (or at least that's my justification for putting forth Haken) and perhaps the other songs are good, but don't quite reach that level.

I'm sure a lot of the opinions here come from lack of familiarity in a band, so maybe the most helpful thing would be to suggest other songs from the bands that someone would like based on the "one hit" they chose.

Judas Unrepentant - Big Big Train

I was very intrigued when I heard it so I went looking for more.
I haven't heard anything else from them that comes close but I haven't heard all their stuff yet.

I would definitely not say it is there only good song, but I will agree it is their masterpiece -- even if it is a mid-70s Genesis song to my ears. Fantastic lyrics and a story based on real events.

Can't really thing of one among prog artists.

But I will offer one with a prog angle to it.

Elton John:  Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding

Great song.  And the only one in his catalog I like.  It's probably no coincidence it's his proggiest.

about time Hercules said something that makes some sense...  though he is ignoring the Wart's contribution to K.C. but his point is taken.  K.C.'s fame really does rest upon one song and that one only.
