I can't understand why Millenium is always overlooked - even by myself, in spite of loving these two albums :

I rated both albums with 4* I really like the voice of Gall. Reminds me of Sting. His solo album is also very nice.

^ I like both of those albums. For some reason, "Ego" has been on my "to review" list for many months but I can't seem to sit down and write about it. I guess part of it is that Millenium is just a very easy band to listen to, which can make it hard to analyze in any sort of depth. That can perhaps be said about a lot of neo for a lot of people, but I actually don't find IQ or Marillion easy to listen to at all.
And geez, you are right about the Sting comparison...never thought of it Edited by kenethlevine - September 21 2017 at 11:13 |

Many of their songs stand out: The Ceiling Speaks (a frequent set opener for good reason)/This City/We Are Sane/East of Eden/Creepshow (their signature tune, thanks to Geoff), and two incredible epics in the form of Sequences (an instrumental Geoff added lyrics to!) and The Collector! Andy Revell's an underrated guitarist. Same for bassist Clive Mitten.

I agree on both. There's something special about english bassplayers. Andy's solo on Blue Powder Monkey is on of my favorites.

^Don't remember it. The only good track on A&I, IMO, is the title track, the last song to benefit from Geoff's input.

Any self respecting genre calling itself neo prog would have had a VDGG descendant. This not being the case, I hereby declare the genre null and void.

[QUOTE=BaldJean]my favorite newer prog band are The Red Masque. they are not really neo-prog though; they are very aggressive. listen to their track "Minotaur":
To me they sound doom metal like Candlemass |

I'm quite surprised Astra haven't been mentioned here at all. They're great and have even got that characteristic 70s production in them. Definitely should check them out.

^If you are referring to the Astra that did The Weirding and Black Chord.....they are called psych space rock.....but they do have many retro elements as well....but to my ears they are not neo prog.....for my money I'd go with IQ....imho the best neo prog band currently out there.

Granted, I know they really aren't that much of a neo-progressive rock bands, but the early prog influences are there. True, Psych-space rock would be a better definition.
