Short stories. I like horror movies, but they rarely scare me that much. Likewise spooky or freaky music - frequently enjoyable, but rarely actually scary.

Some of Ramsey Campbell's short stories though have disturbed me so badly that I regretted having read them for years afterwards. At the same time, that didn't stop me reading more

Other: "smart" phone and Internet addiction among almost an entire generation.
Depression, anxiety, poor communication skills, poor socialization and a lack of empathy, impaired cognitive ability, a lack of basic knowledge, inability to focus, inactivity and poor physical health, a lack of involvement in and disconnection from the community and a world in crisis, fear of the outside world and nature, etc, etc.

That REALLY scares me--the implications for the near future are HUGE.

None of this stuff scares me. I guess films have the best chance.

Horror novels and scary literature like 1984 and Crime and Punishment.   My artsy passions are horror and prog which is why I adore Dario Argento films.

I've read around 700 horror novels.  Every now and again I'll happen upon a very scary book like "The Ruins",  "Pet Semetery", "The Terror" by Dan Simmons, "The Narrows" by Ronald Malfi and "Risen" by J. Knight.   My favorite horror novels aren't necessarily the scariest tales.  Well written is the most important thing.

"Some of Ramsey Campbell's short stories though have disturbed me so badly that I regretted having read them for years afterwards. At the same time, that didn't stop me reading more "   I feel ya Mascodagama!  I  intersperse Campbell's English creepying paranoia in between unhealthy doses of King, Simmons, McCammon, Skipp and Spector and Malfi.  And then there's the bi-annual Lovecraft binge.
