Mine is obviously the great ELP album Trilogy. I consider it probably their 2nd best album behind only the massive prog album Brain Salad Surgery.

Mine's my portrait drawn by my friend (and one of psychedelic prog specialists) Eetu.
Anyway, this thread moved into "General Discussions".

Mine is the cover art from the Flying Luttenbachers album Cataclysm. I believe it depicts a planetoidal entity known as The Iridescent Behemoth, whose apocalyptic battle with another cosmic being The Void is musically represented therein. This is part of a multi-album conceptual sequence dealing with the total destruction of Earth and its aftermath. An easy-listening classic which you should definitely buy for your granny this Christmas, especially if she's deaf.

It's Ian Anderson from the Too Old To Rock 'n Roll music video... right after he stares up a woman's skirt with binoculars. Just too ridiculous to pass up.

Lots of surprising explanations !
My avatar promotes... doodling of course. Doodling has the power to make you travel simply by looking at an A3-A4 sized paper covered with landscape elements : very eco-friendly and the more advisable nowadays

I call mine, "space nebula guy" and he appears on a few of my Mutiny in Jonestown album covers. He began life as one of the "Dance on a Volcano" characters originally found on the back cover of the Trick of the Tail album. About 30 years ago I redrew him holding a guitar instead of a cross ("Crosses are green and crosses are blue your friends didn't make it through...") and added the space nebula design I put on some of my instruments adopting him as my bands unofficial mascot

Mine is the cover of Blue Oyster Cult's 1981 album Fire of Unknown Origin (which is also the name of my almost defunct blog). Though I love the album, the main reason why I chose this particular image is its beautiful shades of blue.

I'm actually not that comfortable having a plain picture of a musician I'm fan of as avatar; that's too straight for my taste. But sod it, I'm really a big Holger Czukay fan and I just love this picture so much. Wish I could look like that.

It's been fun reading through people's responses here so far. Mine isn't too significant, just a detail from the cover of Herbie Hancock's Sextant that's centered in on a happy, carefree guy dancing his heart out in some sort of cosmic psychedelic vista, which I see as being not completely unlike me in real life.
All of my past avatars on the site have also been album covers or cropped sections of album covers, usually with some sort of face in the forefront so as to be a bit more avatar-y. For the most part, they haven't had any real significance other than being favourites of mine for their vivid colour schemes (with a couple of notably uncolourful ones thrown in the mix). Anyone who's interested can look through them here; this is another fun thread in itself that I'd recommend for people to read through:

Mine is for a band? music project? that's only in my head so far.
It's a leper lily or snake's head fritillary, which is the only thing that Google could find when I checked if anyone was using the band/project/whatever name Leper Snake.

My daughter calls me "Beaver". I found this picture of a beaver that looks as if it is singing in front of a microphone standard. On the wooden box on the right was written "Bartimeus". I took a section of the picture and shopped it photo a bit: The letters on the box became "Bar" and I put a Big Big Train beer on it (many of the best pictures taken of me, if these ever exist, show me with an alcoholic beaverage).
