Rufus Guinchard (1899-1990)
One from my island home: Franco-Newfoundland traditional fiddler par excellence. Like his contemporary, fellow fiddler Emile Benoit, Rufus was influential on a generation who revived, revitalized, and updated Newfoundland trad and folk. I saw him live once when I was a young man, and I swear that the charismatic old gent was grinning at me the whole time as I leaned against a post in the pub, and got completely into the infectious, joyful music. Happy memories!
Monsieur Guinchard increased the joy factor in his corner of the world--would that the same could be said of more of us!

(self portrait)
Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin (1848 – 1903) French post-Impressionist artist.
Unappreciated during his life, Gauguin is now recognized as having been groundbreaking and influential in his experimental use of color and Synthetist style quite distinct from Impressionism.

Heinz Guderian (1888 - 1954)

German WW2 general, developer and advocate of "blitzkrieg" tactics, commander of Panzer (tank) divisions
during the invasions of Poland, France, and the Soviet Union. Frequently clashed with Hitler and the German
high command. An effective, innovative commander, he was not an absolute Nazi scumbag or war criminal, it seems.
After the war, Guderian was a prisoner of U.S. forces and investigated until his release without charges in 1948. He
was often invited to speak to British veterans' groups.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
