It's the attahk of the camel....

A sample from each album, albeit some will not like my choices.   Feel free to link to/ embed another of your choosing if you feel like it.

So which album leaves you more breathless.

MAGMA quite easily, I know it's not exactly everyone's fav MAGMA album but for me it blows Breathless out of the desert. Actually that MAGMA album is currently in my top 10 for 1978. Some real gems for that year.

Unfamiliar with Attahk, but there's only one track off of Breathless that I like (Echoes), so I doubt Camel will win the day with me once I get around to listening to both.

Camel
Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

Both samples were good but I don't know nearly enough yet about this 'Magma' to do an educated vote. Camel, I LOVE their Mirage album! It's very good all the way through and then completely kicks your ass at the end there with Lady Fantasy. The Snow Goose and Moonmadness are also quite good, but imo not as good as Mirage.

So couldn't vote on this one.

Alright you made me do it. Gotta love Richard Sinclair though..

Still not voting though. Gotta listen to more Magma first.

Richard Sinclair is great, I love Caravan and Hatfield and the North, but this Camel album is not one of the best, imo, to feature him by quite a long way. He makes it enjoyable, though. I don't think I'd like that song I posted in this topic if it were instead of him, say, pretty much any death metal growler. Actually, that might be cool. Probably some good death metal meets disco out there, maybe.... Perhaps, perhaps not.

I love Attahk. It's one of my favourite Magma albums, and it still sounds fresh to my ears these days. Most people fawn all over MDK, but I like the jazziness of the first two and the fun of Attahk. I like every Magma studio album, even the much reviled Merci, and I love lots of their live albums.
It's not the easiest band for most to get into.... I think a lot of people start in the wrong place, and what place to start depends on what someone is into. For me it was "Iss Lansei Doia" off the second album, but then I liked brassy jazz and very quirky music. It filled with joy.

They both have their charms.
I love Echoes, I love Maahnt (or what ever the 1st song on side 2 is....)
Both are equal for me, a bit patchy overall, but enjoyable 1978 albums.

Can't vote - neither of them made a "breathless" impression on me.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

I like Camel more than Magma, but Breathless is probably their weakest album, so in this case, Magma would get my vote, for the album, not fort he band.

Andy Latimer admitted he probably made 2 of his worst albums as the band were going through a tough time. With Pete Bardens already gone it only left Andy Ward and andy Latimer.   With his current contract, asking for albums to be produced, he was obliged to release these albums with Andy Ward having  personal issues.  Single Factor and Breathless were not your typical Camel sound and resulted more in that mainstream stye. However, one track that did stand out was " Sasquatch" from the Single Factor album.  Still enjoyed today by fans..Smile  Many years later he brought out 'Stationary Traveller' which blew the pants of those other 2 albums and more in line with Camel.

Breathless however, is still an album I enjoy,  despite not being their greatest album, it's still quite listenable ...  With no track that's hard to reach.   Not too familiar with Magma though,  so cannot compare from their other stuff.

This is a tough one, I like them both. Also "support the underdog" applies to them both, as Magma is the underdog against Camel but Breathless is an underdog Camel album. I voted for Breathless because it made me smile (although "You Make Me Smile" is one of its lower songs), because of Richard Sinclair, because of Echoes, because of the guitar solo in Summer Lightning, and because I like it if bands deviate from their usual paths for a while. It may not be very consistent but it's full of ideas.

Anything Magma over anything Camel every day. Except perhaps if it was Merci vs Mirage.

Easily Magma.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
