Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. Not only does this help me get to know some of you but it makes for good recommendations.
I like that mostly non-prog metal has been mentioned. I know pretty much all there is to know about prog metal and the bands under that umbrella, but as far as the other sub-genres of prog rock there is a wealth of music I've yet to explore. With my job there can sometimes be a lot of downtime, so besides read I also like to discover new music. |

No special order......
King Crimson Yes Genesis Jethro Tull Caravan Beatles Led Zep The Who Rolling Stones (heh....I know many prog fans turn their noses up but their early to early mid period rock albums are simply iconic) Steely Dan These came off the top of my head just now.....so the list could change tomorrow but prolly by only one or two bands. :) Edited by dr wu23 - May 10 2017 at 14:00 |

I see quite a few people mentioned VDGG. I started checking them out using the PA rankings. I like what I'm hearing so far.

Being a 14 year old boy I listen to lots of different kinds of music, and around September 2016 a friend of mine introduced me to prog. Here's my top 15 in no order:
Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree (probably my favorite) Pink Floyd (my dad introduced me to them a while back but I had no idea what prog was at the time) Genesis VdGG PFM Harmonium (my dad is French Canadian, so Harmonium was a huge part of his childhood and he passed his love of them on to me) Magma Phideaux The Flower Kings Frank Zappa Hawkwind Rush (good old Canadian boys!) Supertramp (not really prog but still great) Caravan Mike Oldfield |
