I have owned electrostatics, but not Stax and certainly not 570 quids worth but after 30 years faithful service they simply fell to pieces (a bit like the final moments of the original Bluesmobile). I have to say they are the closest thing to not wearing headphones I've ever heard (see, I'm not lost for words), in fact if it wasn't for the inescapable reality that all headphones place the soundstage behind you rather than in front of you I'd say the experience was like being in the best listening room your local to-notch hifi emporium has to offer. (but I may be exaggerating).
What?

To me yes - especially in that scenario

You wouldn't happen to own a pair Dean? I saw a jootoob review by some tech guy (Z perchance?) and when it came to actually conveying how they sounded like he was lost for words rambling about the need for some new language to properly explain his utter adoration.
He was quite alright lingo-wise when he talked about specs and comfort though. I certainly didn't understand a lot of it other than Stax makes electrostatic cans...and they sound or at least differ vastly from ordinary driver cans.
Now I'm just curious. How do 570£ headphones sound like?

Well me tooLOL
To be perfectly clear; I've never used the stock iphone hp as they were beyond horrible. No I've always used Sennheiser or Sony in-ears and have been rather pleased with them.
I'm not sure why it took me this long to take interest HOW the music sinks it's way down my skull, but now that I do I am making up for lost time - believe you me. Already considering selling my ass to fund a pair of Stax l300LOL

AFAIK the difference between G and i is merely the plug used, straight (i) or angled (G).

ps: I have to confess I find it difficult to get too excited by any headphones fitted with 3.5mm jacks regardless of what orientation they are. Wink

Nevermind. It looked like a substantial price dif, but the "G" I was looking at was actually 471 rather than 461.

G or I?

Hmm, I can't remember. Probably I, but I'm not sure. It doesn't actually say on the headphones themselves, and I don't have the box handy, so I am regretfully unable to answer.

Maybe we can meet in the middle and say H? Tongue

It occurs to me that the device pictured is not really touching much bone.

Why not go up a notch a get the K702? It's just down to your sailor technique down on the docks.
Either way I've heard great things about the 702 from AKG fans. Sorta like pouring nougat down your earcanal.

Bah! Waste of time! If you gonna bring it...then bring it!

Also. I'm not gonna tell you what to buy because I know to do things right, cost is a necessary evil.
You are an extremely smart guy, Dave.
Have a great time doing some research. I know you'll find something great and understand that certain headphones need more attention than others. ;)

PM me If you ever want my help. :)
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Thanks for the info - much appreciated.
It's a brand new world for me. I've been reading about all this mumbojumbo for the past few weeks or so trying to get some footing in a world that appears to be as inherently subjective as musical tastes are...but there does seem to be some lessons one can pick up whilst perusing other folks' experiences with cans.

One irritating thing to point out: I have almost no way of trying out any of the headphones I'd like without having to spend 2 hours on a bus. Oh the joys of the danish countryside.

^ I wouldn't compare the Superluxes to $300 headphones, but I prefer them to all of the $60-$100 ones I've had before (mostly Sennheisers).

The only minuses for me are that the treble can be quite harsh (especially without an amp of some kind, I wouldn't use them without one) and the build quality is obviously on the plasticky side.

Ahh yeah I haven't quite gotten to the stage where I consider investing in an eq. Maybe I should.
That's kinda why I chose the sony pair. Seems pretty basic and are ready to go without too much hassle.

That seems to be the prevailing consensus: wonderful sound for the money.
The only downside to them (and AKGs in general as I understand) is that a lot of folks into rock, funk, hip hop etc find them lacking in the bass department. (Maybe they're just used to beats by dre and can't handle a "normal" bass presence?)
