Awesome, I will be around mostly on the weekends because Mom limits my amount of Internet time on School Nights as I am usually busy with homework and other stuff.


Lazland Junior is supposed to be revising for his GCSE exams in the summer. I would appreciate your mother informing me how she gets you to be so disciplined in limiting internet time. I've given up

Well this thread has sure been active, to say the least! LOL

It seems I'm a bit late to the party, but welcome! Always glad to see new faces on the site, especially those who are so receptive to trying out new stuff. If you can stand Henry Cow the first time in, then I think there's little else on here that should really phase you. Wink

I could probably go on for days recommending hidden prog treasures from all over the world. As great as the symphonic English classics are, my favourites usually end up being the obscurities from all those one-album no-names. Italy, Germany, Sweden, Russia, France, Spain, Finland, Argentina, Quebec, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Poland, etc., etc., etc. And that's not even going into all the whacked out subgenres within subgenres that you'd never think would reach the light of day... I've left no stone unturned thanks to the amazing suggestions on this site! But for the time being, have one of the many fine prog offerings from the Great White North:

Since you mentioned you're interested in Renaissance music, you might want to check out Gryphon, Amazing Blondel and Blackmore's Night.

I also recommend French bands Malicorne and Tri Yann (Celtic rock, but with folk and medieval influences). As specific suggestions, Malicorne's Almanach and Tri Yann's Portraits.

Phil Collins (one of my favorites, too)
80s Genesis (anybody????)

There are a lot of good stuff there. It doesn't necessarily have to be progressive, does it?

When it comes to Soft Machine, I have some strange views.

My favorite is Third, followed by their self-titled debut. In just the past two months, I've probably played over Third a good thirty/forty times. And I do credit it as my best discovery as of recent.

But it has been a while since I listened to Bundles. I might have only played through it once or twice in full... :/

Jade, try Steven Wilson's work - separately and with Porcupine Tree and Blackfield. A few of my school friends happen to like the guy, and his music is very progressive and beautiful.
