Topic: Anonymous Two or Barazinbar? Posted: March 23 2017 at 23:20 |
I've been in a Focus mood lately. Jan Akkerman is such an exceptional guitarist. Anyhow, what do you think of Anonymous Two (including both part 1 and 2 on the vinyl) compared to Barazinbar? I think Anonymous Two wastes a lot of time with their rhythm component. I give the edge to Barazinbar, which is saying a lot because I just can't get enough Focus lately.

Thanks. I went for Barazinbar too, but these really are two great albums. In fact, I think both are similarly overlooked as well. Fans seem to single out Last Autumn's Dream with Jade Warrior and Hamburger Concerto with Focus. No harm in that, certainly, but Released and Focus III are fabulous albums in their own right as well.

I only know Anonymous Two.
The first 1/2 of Anonymous Two is IMHO some of the best jazz/prog/rock EVER...Thijs van Leer's flute/organ tirade and Bert Ruiter's bass interlude on the first half of Anonymous Two are sublime. The track loses itself with both Jan Akkerman's guitar section and Pierre van der Linden's drum solo. I only ever listen to the first half.

Good poll. I only knew "Anonymous Two" that I recall (Focus and Gryphon were my two favourite Prog bands at one time), but I was very impressed with that Jade Warrior track (glad for the link). "Barazinbar" gets my vote.
