Not every Russian joke is funny to the Western or Eastern ears, and vice versa - but in most cases our senses of funny undoubtedly coincide.

Let's start with this

A few years ago, I saw on TV a documentary about this kind of jokes, and I remember this one:

In a gulag, a guy hears his cellmates saying numbers to each other and bursting in laugh: "37! - Oh, yeah! Ha ha ha! Very good one!"
Rather puzzled, he asks the other guys what they are doing: "Well, we're in the gulag for having made political jokes and, since we don't want to spend more years here, we created a code: we gave each joke a number to identify them. So, when we want to tell a political joke, we just have to say a number
 - Oh yeah? That simple?! Can I try it, too?
 - Of course!
 - Well... So, what about... 14?!"
The two other guys look at him, then they look at each other, then they look at the walls...
"What? It's not a funny joke?
- Er... In fact, it is a funny joke, but... You don't tell it very well..."

So he then says "72" and they fall to the floor, rolling about with laughter for almost an hour.
"Why is that so funny?" He asks.

"We've never heard that one before".

The classic modern Russian joke.

There are three levels of having no money for an ordinary Russian:
 I have no money
 I completely have no money
It's time to exchange my dollars

A totally realistic joke.

Most of the time (since 2:15) you don't need translation in this sketch in broken English.
