Topic: Random (Prog) Albums From My Collection Posted: January 02 2017 at 18:07
I picked 10 random CDs from my collection. I have some vinyl and cassette stuff (and digital albums) but 75% or more of my collection is CD.
This is what I did: I grabbed a bunch of my CDs without paying attention to the titles/covers...about 50 of them. Then I separated all the non-PA (and Proto/Related) stuff from the rest. Then I shuffled what remained like cards and put 10 aside without looking at them.

Fragile will make a killing for sure. Third, SABB, ATTWT and maybe Relics won't be far behind. I'm interested in seeing how many votes the remaining half will get.

Second vote goes to King Crimson (and my second vote for them this evening). After that, Yes, Genesis, TD, and PF.

Fragile is the only one of these that I'm a huge fan of, so it got my vote pretty easily. Even the ones by the other big names don't come close for me; SABB is the only classic Crimson album I don't really like.

Third is the only album here of a group at the top of their form. Fragile is easily the weakest of the five classic albums, SABB is better than Red and maybe Poseidon but inferior to the rest of KC's classic work, and on for most of these guys. Replace It's All Around You with Millions Now Living Will Never Die and this would be an easy vote for Tortoise.
I gave the edge to Relics just above Fragile. Relics has a special place (quite unusual for compilations) because it was my very first prog album at the tender age of 13. The others, as far as I have heard them, follow wy behind.
