PS: Is your car's name "Shadowfax," Gandalf Stormcrow?
"Look to the East! Here he comes, kids, the White Rider!"
(Here come the cavalry!)

I might be mollified by the offer of an icy bottle of Moosehead and the dulcet strains of "Xanadu" wafting from your new "boombox".

It's bigger than a boombox! (or a breadbox, for that matter!) Separate spkrs & sub, no handle.
BTW: Can you buy Chinese (red, get it?) goods there? How about chicken balls?

Speaking personally
I drive a Ford Mondeo, I have no issues whatsoever about the size of my system, I do have large feet (an a consequently enormous....... sock drawer) & as for the possibility of Stormcrow's car being called Shadowfax:
Picture the scene
50,000 rampaging orcs assaulting Helms Deep; Aragorn looks to the East (it being the dawn of the 5th day), expecting to see Gandalf on a magnificent white elvish stallion before the massed ranks of the riders of Rohan..... but no! What is this?
Several hundred classic American cars come beetling over the headland, down the steep embankment toward a cowering orcish horde..... who then look on astonished as the whole lot crash into a crumpled heap at the bottom of the hill, disgorging dazed MacDonald eating drivers, all discussing the superbowl & comparing the size of their feet.
Peter Jackson would not have got the Oscar for that one!

Ha! Really funny, James! (I mean it.) I laughed aloud, & so did my ten-year-old Legolas fan, though I don't think she got the reference to the feet....
You strange, funny, wonderful man! Quit smoking, get a "weave" and all necessary alterations (you can probably claim it on your lefty socialized public health plan), take some cooking courses, and marry me!
(Hey, it'll soon be legal! Course it already is for those free-wheeling, topless shampoo commercial-ogling, man-purse sporting, clog-wearing Europeans.)

This is so sudden - such a proposal
SHOW ME THE DIAMOND
Hey man - I don't need a weave; my head is covered by a healthy mass of follicles - unlike you, I use a hair dryer, not a polishing cloth!
As far as smoking is concerned, I know I should stop, but there's something about having a beer in one hand & a ciggie in the other; where I come from, that's called a balanced diet (I wouldn't last 5 minutes in California - Arnie Schwartz as Govenor - where they think if you stamp out tobacco smoke, they will live forever).
You have a 10 year old Legolas fan - I'm married to a 36 year old fanatic!! The people in the cinema seats in front of us needed umbrellas 'cos of the drool...... and as for Pirates Of The Caribbean, with him AND Johnny Depp - there were usherettes surfing down the aisles!

Jimbo, you'll just have to find something else to hold in your other hand when you drink.... Uh, wait, that could lead to trouble.... ( I hope you type with BOTH hands?!)
When friends who smoked would say "But it gives me something to do with my hands," I used to advise them to "Just do what I do: pick your nose, or wh*** o**!"
He: Do you smoke after sex?
She: Maybe. I never checked!

Do you mean like all the "made in People's Republic of China" crep at Wallyworld.... or like, Chinese food?
I live in a smaller town (pop. 22,000), there's a Walmart in town as well as 4 Chinese restuarants. We lost our Korean eating establishment. It was the best.

I seriously wasn't sure whether you could buy Chinese goods in America. I don't think that you can buy Cuban goods or travel to Cuba, can you? (Canadians can.) I was just curious. ( Obviously, I know full well that you can buy all sorts of Chinese food in the U.S.)
Can American companies invest in China?
I live in a small city of 50,000. We've got the ubiquitious "Wallyworld" as well.
Canadian youth (and I bet where you live too) all talk like Californian Valley Girls. (Frank saw it coming!) This plague on language is spreading everywhere English is heard, and even into other languages!:
"So anyway, he goes 'like, what do you want to do?' so I like go 'I don't know,' then he goes 'well, I'm really, like, bored," so I go 'like, so am I. This is, like, so lame.....'" !
(And so on. If you start to count the "likes" when a gaggle of teens speak, you'll like, go like, MAD!)

No, we can not buy Cuban goods in the U.S. Though other than cigars what do they produce that we would want (just curious). I should think we would much rather trade with that "quaint" little country to the north of us.
Last I was aware, Americans (other than diplomatic staff) can't travel directly to Cuba. One must for instance, travel through Mexico first and get the visa and etc. there
There are no restrictions that I am aware of for Americans being able to invest in business in the PRC

This is just like soooooo grody to the max....... totalllllyyyy...... barf out...... gag me with a spoon
etc etc etc
At least these are vague approximations of language, as opposed to a majority of British youth (or 'yoof'), where any word in excess of 2 syllables marks you out as an outsider, and any sentence structure now has to be in text-ese (the curse of the mobile phone.....)

Gee guys and gals!
I have to say I'm highly disappointed.
I would have thought after reading about my PONCY little system and Peter's boombox, all y'all would join in and describe your own (I assume, non-poncy) stereo setups.
- intermission - classical lite music - purchase of pop corn and a refreshing, sparkling beverage -
I begin to hear of many people getting 5.1 surround sound systems for their TV rooms and then listening to their CD's on said systems.
I have to say that I've tried it (playing my music CD's in my TV surround sound) and while I'm aware that there are a few music disks available mixed to 5.1 (I don't have any, myself), I have to say: "I don't get it". I would never give up my stereo system that took 15 years to get the way I wanted it, in order to sit in front of a blank TV screen to listen. If I hadn't collected so many movies on DVD by this time, I'd sooner give up the TV all together.
Is anyone else doing this? Am I missing something? Is there some mystery tone I'm not hearing or are the people in question just culling the electronic devices in their life?

I listen to music in three ways: My truck (stock), My computer (Altec Lansing cheapoos w/ sub-woofer, nothing secial) and My Discman. I did have a nice system, once. Lost it in a divorce. I did purchase a surround sound system, but I don't listen to much music at home.
