Topic: Albums You Got This Christmas Posted: December 26 2015 at 14:28 |
Hey, just wondering how everyone's Christmas went, and specifically whether Santa got you any albums you particularly wanted (or didn't want?) this year. I haven't been active on ProgArchives for a while now for various work reasons, but I'm hoping to come back again and start writing/re-writing reviews too, and I thought this would be a nice place to start. Anyway, a list of mine:
-The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (fallen in love with them once again) -Bon Iver - s/t (nice surprise from out of the blue) -Glenn Gould - The Goldberg Variations (just listened to it along with a music score, highly recommended for getting into classical) -Grant Green - Idle Moments (a great hard bop guitar-y album) -Bert Jansch - Rosemary Lane (my favourite record of his, very consistent collection of folk songs) -Nick Mulvey - First Mind (yet to hear this one, all I know is that it's not prog) -Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett (a great introduction into glitchy breakcore/electronic music if -anyone's interested) -Eberhard Weber - The Colours Of Chloe (massively recommended for any modern jazz fans) -Stevie Wonder - Innervisions (another personal favourite that I've always wanted)
P.S. Happy holidays all, hope you have a fantastic 2016!

I received quite a few 2015 releases. Albums I already know are going to destroy my AOTY list - a list that already was plenty full beforehand. Oh well one can't really complain about the overabundance of great new music.
Reve Général - Howl Circle - Pharaoh Overlord Komara - s/t Simon Steensland - A Farewell to Brains Goblin Rebirth - s/t Schnellertollermeier - X Sonar - Black Light Homunculus Res - Come si...
Pharaoh Overlord and Howl may just be the finest albums I've heard this year (together with elephant9's Silver Mountain).

Jack O' the Clock had a bargain download available for their complete discography on Bandcamp, so I bit.
Beats the hell out of those argyle socks I received.

Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure - CD Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear - Vinyl
*I should note that I had Phaedra and Rubycon by Tangerine Dream, then had jumped straight to Tangram, assuming foolishly that the other Virgin Years stuff between '75 - '79 wouldn't really interest me. Upon first listens to both Stratosfear and Force Majeure, I was very wrong. Stratosfear is very good. Force Majeure is phenomenal! I have a good and thoughtful wife, who surprised me with these albums for Christmas this year.
Jean Michel Jarre - Rendezvous - Vinyl Tangerine Dream Lily on the Beach - CD
Elder - Lore - CD (I wouldn't call this prog, more stoner-rock, though there's a lot that's prog-ish about it) We Lost the Sea - Departure Songs - Vinyl (More post-rock, but possibly my favorite album of 2015. Amazing.)
This is my first post on ProgArchives. Glad to be here!

Can't believe 2016 went by so fast. I probably shouldn't have slept so much.
Julegaver this year (of the musical kind) include: Mother Turtle - ll (Heard this before turning in last night and was absolutely thrilled with what I heard!) Řresund Space Collective - West Space & Love ll Promenade - Noi Al Dir Di Noi Thy Catafalque - Meta (Heard half of this and it is again one of those irritating albums that uses programmed drums instead of a human beat provider )
