Same for me---Fripps experimentation is all fine but at the end of the day Hackett is a better guitarist --his range is amazing. Could play in a classical concert, blues band, metal band etc. His acoustic playing is sublime. Plus--his music is uplifting and melodic which is what I'm looking for in life.Uplifting.  Fripps playing is super interesting but depressing and neurotic.

Fripp gets my vote but I love both nearly equally for different reasons...

In my opinion two very different styles and two great musicians

Fripp - more experimental and eclectic

Hackett - more academic and melodic

However, Hackett's music is more close of my taste !  Only for taste .... Hackett !

Fripp for his playing, Hackett for the stronger solo career.

This like asking if I'd rather get kicked in the face or have a good time.

Steve Hackett easily, not only is he a real guitar virtuoso, but he also doesn't hate you for being a fan of his music.

A daft comparison - Fripp was a huge influence on Hackett who also went on to forge ihs own distinctive sound and approach (including classical acoustic)

Result defined by more than goal difference at this tightest of league games. There must be a 2 point difference.

And some random and tolerably contemporary picks.

Red and A Trick Of The Tail. 1 - 1

Earthbound versus Live is obvious and easy. 1 - 2

The one who had John Wetton in his band.. uh oh, 2 - 3

Ok, the one with Bruford.... oh gross gott, scheisse.... um... 3 - 4

both versatile, highly imaginative 4 - 5

Spectral Mornings gets the nod over almost anything Fripp has done... mainly because its sublime beauty is matched by it's ingenuity. 4 - 6

Jeeznis. That was close.

Whatever happened to all the fun in the world.

Sounds like Fripp and Neil Peart might get along
