Very good (and obscure!). Thanks for sharing. Here are a couple of new obscure prog artists you may like. Firstly some post metal with hints of djent from German band Aeon's End, their latest album Imago |

More modern prog metal, from Source, their new album Return to Nothing. Pleasing guitar harmonies on this one.

OK now for 2 not very obscure bands who have new albums. Firstly Opeth with a softer more folksy album Sorceress, channelling Jethro Tull a bit..... Took me a couple of listens but I'm enjoying several of the tracks - here is one.

Lastly another popular prog band who has gone a softer route - Riverside. Where the River Flows from their new instrumental/ambient album Eye of the Soundscape due out next week

^^ Two days ago, I ordered the album of Riverside. But I will not buy the CD of Opeth because the music is too much oriented 70's now.

Yeah - I'm similar, don't like the 70's prog sound, which is the sound of most of this album. This track is pretty good though.

^^ I like 70's sounds when they are played by bands of first division of progressive music (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Camel, ...).
And also when the 70's influences are mixed with modern post/alternative music. To sum up with an example, I want to listen to rock like Amplifier, but not by The Flower Kings. Edited by PhideauxFan - October 02 2016 at 03:33 |

I'll be self-serving here and direct you to my band's debut album, To Sin Against Our Mercies. It's a progressive hard rock album featuring the melodic guitar stylings of Grammy-nominee Tony Gaglio. It also includes musical contributions from Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath), Mirabai Peart (Joanna Newsom's band), Tobin Sprout (Guided by Voices) and Pete Trewavas (Marillion). You can preview four tracks and pre-order the album on Bandcamp. Here's the first single... |

I guess it all depends on someone's definition of obscure and how long you have been into prog and also what kind of prog you are into. Also, a lot of prog fans tend to latch on to the latest releases without ever having explored lost gems from the 70's 80's,90's and beyond. There are many vintage albums from prog's past from many different countries(not just the US and the UK)that these days have been more or less buried beneath the most obvious bands and latest releases. Triumvirat, Eloy, Grobschnitt, Le Orme, Cast and Ange are some examples but there are many others and many even more obscure than them.

Sure - do post links to any tracks from those bands that could help others reading this thread to be introduced to them. Most of those bands you posted are older European prog groups and I sampled a couple of random tracks from Spotify but nothing grabbed me probably as I picked the wrong tracks.

Nice find, thanks. Here is another obscure band Raised by Swans (Eric Howden from Canada) that I have posted about a while back and is releasing a new album.
