^^ I think that deandob wants to discover "almost unknown" bands from the third or the fourth generation of progressive music (from 1990 to nowadays).
So no Zappa, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gong, Magma and so on ... ![]() |

I don't know why you're calling them a deadnob... and none of those bands you listed are obscure.

yeah - I grew up in the 70's listening to all the 'famous' 60's/70's prog artists however I prefer the freshness of more modern prog bands (maybe its the poorer recording quality of the older music, I don't know but all the old stuff just sounds tired to me now, perhaps with the exception of Floyd and some of the later Genesis). But I'll still listen to any recommendation as I'm sure there are gems from the old days to discover. |

If you want some amazing 90's prog try the album "Hunger's Teeth" by 5uus. They are like an avant garde angry Yes.

it is the obscure ones we live for isn't it...one of the joys to all the work... the very real work we did in genre team work in rounding out the database. In fact some of those obscure ones because real favorites.
I remember stumbling across this one. Blew Dean and myself away I remember quite well... ![]() Austrailia was a real goldmind for obscure stuff... |

Cool, Bakery is a fairly well know Prog Band in Oz. When Zappa toured here in 73 Bakery Supported them and their Lead Singer Barry Leef sang on stage with Zappa's band doing Road Ladies. In fact the story goes the Zappa asked Leef to join his band as lead singer but Leef had problems getting a US Visa..........

Thanks for the recommendation! I gave this a few spins via Spotify today and dug it a lot. The group manages to transcend its influences on most tunes. If you enjoy the heavier side of this group, you might also like the doom/post-rock sound of Pallbearer. The group just released a new EP, Fear & Fury, that's very melodic without losing its jam-band weirdness. It consists of one new track and two covers (one Dio-era Black Sabbath song and one Type-0 Negative song).
