Yeah, I actually remembered about Lindsay, but was not entirely sure. Peter Blegvad also sprung to mind, but I was not aware that he was a full-time member of Henry Cow. Anyway, thank you for a great quiz! ![]() |

Hey gang!
I have just posted my review on The Road: Volumes 1-5. It's insanely long (1000 words), but I would love it if you read the whole review and gave me feedback and constructive criticism. Any thoughts appreciated. ![]() Here is the link: http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=1568130 Thanks in advance. |

I intend on spinning my News From Babel LP today. Zeena Parkins on the Harp was a wonderful addition to the line-up. Perhaps some Art Bears too.

Thank you very much! ![]()
Yeah, the harp gave a rather unique flavor. I have listened to News From Babel once or twice, but never devoted my full attention to their music. Well, I guess it's time. I was just wanting to listen to some Art Bears, too. Edited by ALotOfBottle - May 21 2016 at 01:30 |

Well done - a great review!!
I never thought I would see the News from Babel material ever performed live, until the Lindsay Cooper tribute concerts (see my review on here) - John Greaves admirably deputised the Wyatt parts (there was a rumour he would appear for the Barbican show) |

I remember that coming out; it was a confusing time for Cow fans. In the late 70s, our only source of information was the music press and I also recall being nonplussed about an album of 'songs'. I remember scanning the album sleeve in the record shops but I had other pressing demands on my scarce record buying money! Then it was announced that the Cow were to split after seeing out their commitments for 1978. I saw the ad for the RIO festival, but as a 15 year old I couldn't get to London for it. At least the Cow set appears on the Box Set (on 'Late'), and I see ReR Megacorp have just released a CD of the Etron Fou set at RIO.

Its sound does seem a bit odd. Some of the pieces have a very pop-like feel to them, while some have a somber Univers Zero-esque mood. I like what I'm hearing, but not exactly as much as when I started listening. |

My favorite Art Bears album is The World As It Is Today.
Great album, less Weill/Brecht than the others.

The world as it is today almost sounds like another Cow album.

The Art Bears were certainly an extension of the Cow although Tim Hodgkinson's Each In Our Own Thoughts unsurprisingly sounds like another, not least because it features 'Erk Gah', the lost Cow classic but retitled as 'Hold to the Zero Burn, Imagine'. The album also features Dagmar, Lindsay Cooper and Chris Cutler - the closest thing to a Henry Cow 'reunion' on record...

When Hopes & Fears first came out I heard it premiered on an L.A. radio show that specialized in imported albums. Somebody was hip enough to program it, but the DJ didn't seem to be much of a fan. He had a hard time with the handwritten credits on the LP and mentioned Lindsay "Looper," and singled out Chris Cutler's credit for "noise" saying that he must have a lot to do with the album.

Any fans of Lindsay's album Rags ?? I was so blown away having come across the LP of this in the late-90's. All lovers of HC need to hear this. With a line-up of Cooper, Frith, Cutler, Born and singers Phil Minton and Sally Potter, a very special, little known gem. |

I must admit it was only in anticipation of her tribute shows that I started to explore her works - the ensemble played 'Lots of Larks' and 'General Strike' from that album - but I remember 'As She Breathes' as one of many highlights.

I would be happy to but not sure when I could get round to it! I have got Pragma as well - but that's a really challenging listen.
