I was listening to my LP of Yugoslav band HOBO last night and was thinking what a great contribution the violin adds to their sound - brought Curved Air to my mind on several passages. Their direction is a little skewed at times, but overall a very good album, definitely worth your time.

I revisited 'Sea Shanties' by 'High Tide' yesterday and am amazed (again) by how modern Simon House's Violin sounds (its 1969!) yet can suddenly sound like he's in Fairport convention.. Later with Hawkind and also David Bowie, his style is still as fluid from effect laden chaos to gentle folk style.
My favorites are The Flock (not exactly prog, but a high-class psychedelic band) and East Of Eden. East Of Eden's Snafu is probably among my top 5 albums. Phenomenal Israeli-inspired violin play!
