Terrible name for an album. It was probably the first thing he thought of: "I have a b-sides album i want to release right after my fourth album. Got it, 4 1/2!". Cmon man, Really??
Nonetheless, I'm sure it will be an interesting listen, at the very least.

Really though. Most popular/powerful force in the modern art-rock/progressive rock scene, and the best title he could think of sounds like a parody of itself. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Steven Wilson's music, but I have a hard time lately taking anything he does seriously anymore. And it leaves me scratching my head: what magic is he doing to keep so many people interested and at the top of the game lately?

Yep! I'm off the Steven Wilson bandwagon. Raven or any Wilson releases can't hold up to the 70's classics. I never feel like revisiting the albums, so I got a good bundle of money selling my Raven That Refused Limited Edition Boxset. And I won't regret/miss it.
Money went towards something much better than an arrogant artist who believes any modern prog band who isn't heavy deserves s**t (Flower Kings). His personality, his constant eagerness to remaster albums that had plenty of reissues, and his constant, impatient output (Transience, Cover Version..) make an artist I wouldn't care to support.

Well, SW is following the thread of naming his pieces after famous film directors (Harmony Korine, Tinto Brass).
This time he mimics Fellini (8 1/2 - 4 1/2).
But didn't someone record an album about Fellini? Yeah, but it was Fish, he is sooo neoprog, therefore he does not count.
Going to buy this album though. And go to a gig.

After seeing him on the Hand Cannot Erase tour, I'll be sure to see him every time he comes around. That show was amazing.
On a side note, I hope SW has a little more of a hand in the upcoming Blackfield record. Man, did Aviv Geffen botch that last one. Blackfield II is one of my all time faves.

I'm going to see him and his band in Manchester in January, really looking forward to that.
The new album is of course an essential purchase. I'm of the view that his solo output is much better than the PT material (and I say that as a big PT fan). I'm hoping to hear some new material at the January gig as I understand a "real" new album is already in the pipeline.
On a side note, I saw Joe Satriani earlier this month. The show was mindblowing, he is an absolute genius. However, Marco Minneman is now Satch's drummer and he was simply out of this world, taking the music to a new level. On his albums Satch's material tends to just noodle along nicely but not with too much aggression, but MM has really beefed things up. He was outstanding.

Not a fan of Raven nor Hand but Wilson/PT has always had interesting 'discarded' material so I may still enjoy this who knows.

H.C.E tour was an outstanding show.....living in Seattle we do not get artists like him often or at all, so these are a treat. I judge PT and SW material on their own, I don't connect the two other than he plays in both. When I want hard driving, more metal SW then I listen to PT.

I like steven's style to be productive and expand the musical areas. I'm sure that he has also expanded his consciousness several times.
