Lately I've been seeing more usage of the term 'Big Six' in terms of prog rock bands, and it got me wondering which (if any) you consider to be the most overrated.

So... vote away and discuss.

Never understood what was so great about JT, nor why they should be included as a Tier 1 prog band.

Clearly Pink Floyd. I don't hate them, some of their songs are really great, but they're not prog according to my definition (great sound design and some nice melodies, but no complexity). I would actually replace them with Gentle Giant and Van der Graaf Generator in the above list.

The most 'overrated' band of the 'big six' is 'Genesis'.

me neither, I always chalked it up to a bad early experience with Aqualung, but I guess it's not just me.

King Crimson has released some remarkably overrated albums, so they get my vote.

I've merely listed the 'big six' as they are most often quoted elsewhere.

Admittedly the only album of theirs I can get into is Pictures at an Exhibition... I'd put that on my top 10 album list of all time.

Genesis, of course. I've never been able to listen to an entire album apart of Lamb.
If we forget things like Love Beach I like ELP.
None of the others can be called overrated even if I can't call myself a Tull fan.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

None of them are overrated to my ears, so no vote.

Voted for ELP by error. I meant Jethro Tull.

While I still can't vote, I'm going to say that it's a good thing this time, as I don't think I've listened to enough of all of the bands.  (I'm only truly familiar with Yes and Pink Floyd, and as I love both of them, I can't consider them overrated!)  I really need to listen to more prog.

However, I am curious about the idea of "The Big 6."  Is this a consensus of prog fans in general?  Are there no others that qualify?  Is six too many?

(For the record, I am familiar with "The Big 4" of Thrash Metal and have opinions about that.  I've even contemplated a personal "Big 4" for Power Metal, if you're curious.)
