Of course you haven't got the same experience that I have - still your knowledge and experience are basically the two things you got to rate the value of any art. You can't seek so-called objectivity in other ways. Well, obviously you can by simply copy&paste historical facts and general consensus but then your opinion isn't really yours and has no personal value=irrelevant. There's no point joining a discussion if you're just a copy machine and if you don't have something resembling an opinion there's certainly no point responding to you. There's simply less fun if "I'm right and the rest of you are wrong" isn't allowed.

Your (mine or svetonios) opinion of communism or other perfect tools for tyrants isn't the point. I used it as examples for believing and claiming that you are right (while others are wrong) is ok - in any given context. A lot of my opponents here says this is arrogant and that its basically the same as calling everyone who disagrees with you idiots. I think they are the extreme ones - not me. But we'll never agree. So instead of having a jolly good time bickering about which one of these progclassics is the most overrated and why, we have ourselves yet another metadiscussion.

Such personal offense taken by who I consider hyper-sensitive individuals. I'm certain that no one wished this thread to devolve into childish name-calling.

Seems straightforward to me: of these classics, which is less a cornerstone of the prog rock pantheon--if any--and argue the point. But perhaps old-fashioned debate without personal attacks is more than one can expect, even from the intelligence I routinely encounter on this site.

I picked DSOTM because I find most of what follows Time less than stellar, and "Any Colour You Like" meandering filler.

^If you really want to know reading the thread always helps. But although I was the one who brought up ideologies as a metaphor, I doubt its worth your time.

I have read the thread, so mine was largely a rhetorical question.

^I'm sure you'd tried to get your point across using similar strategies (hopefully with greater success. My intentions was far from wanting to discuss politics)

Yes, considering the theme of this thread is simply a modification of the Floyd v. Yes v. Genesis v. King Crimson eternal prog poll cliché, arguing about religion, itself a shibboleth of infinite proportions, has already been established.

Paganism is the most underrated religion imo. Which one is the most overrated? Satanism? Satan is surely not the worst you can believe in but that's beside the point. I even tend to overrate him a little myself.

On this forum we do occasionally get childishness ... and arrogance. We can't have perfection.

Also, ...

Sounds like two different groups of people to me.

You bring up arguing quite a lot Terri, so I take it that it bothers you. Yes, it's true that many hide behind the safety of a PC keyboard and all the rest of that. It's also a matter of people not understanding the dynamics of a chat room discussion which can be taken out of context. I might offer a leading question to someone stating I saw a young rock star before he was famous and not let on that I was only a kid at the time, waiting for the person I was talking to question this before another member post's  about something different  derails the conversation.

Someone else who catches my midstream discussion, that's been cut off, questions how I could have seen such a big star before he's popular, not realizing that I could not complete my statement.

Broken up conversations and taking things out of context is one problem. The next is that the inquisitive other member doesn't ask me to clarify my statement before declaring it to be BS and telling me so.

So long, story short, most of these squabbles could be avoided with a question instead of an accusation. How to rectify that is a question with no easy answer, I suppose.

it seems to me most of these squabbles could be avoided by people not taking offense unnecessarily and without waiting to ask questions (I certainly concede that point). I don't mind a good argument, myself, but I find that often when I am interested in a topic it gets highjacked by a quarrel that seems to spring out of nowhere, and then no one returns to the topic.

A lot of people on this site do seem to be in a hurry to misunderstand and impugn everyone's motives. I'm fine personally with assuming that people mean well until they provide me with clear evidence that they do not (you know who you are).

As some of you noted, you share an on-line history that I don't know or understand.  That's cool, I was just pointing out how it appears to a new PA member, and I hope you all don't mind if I occasionally ask for the backstory when curiosity gets the better of me.

^No, this doesn't bother me at all, and perhaps a dialogue of this type can help to erase some of these bumps in the road.

I questioned your claim of seeing Bob Dylan. After your explanation I accepted your statement as true. I was not going to accept your claim blindly. I called you no names nor did I personally attack you. The end line was you posting a picture of troll spray which was humorous. I have been here a long time and have heard some outrageous claims. How about a sincere apology if this is important to you or even if it is not.
