First I go looking for my post and then have to search like crazy to find it in the "I've got a ~~secret~~, (I mean) question" forum, which I didn't know existed even thought I thought I'd looked through the different forum options, now you guys are coitusing with me. On top of that I had to pick up the dog poop today because apparently, spring has arrived in Canada now and I may have to cut the grass tomorrow. Prog Archives is the most important community of progressive rock. Credibility of rating give success to artists that have worked hard to produce their album. If fake rating come too often in the picture, credibility is wrong.
Pleas elet me know how you intend to face this situation....

Thank you for joining the community and you do bring up a frequently heard concern. As an open, internet group, we feel that it is important that new members have the ability to rate and review albums, but, as you mention, it leaves the door open for someone to try to manipulate ratings for their own purposes. Your suggestion that new members ratings get lower consideration isn't quite fair to the new members that are legitimately rating and enjoying themselves.

We do however give ratings that are accompanied by a review ten times as much weight as a rating only. Furthermore, reviews by collaborators and prog reviewers (members that have been promoted based on their body of work) have twenty times the weight as a rating only. Basically, the people that do 'ratings only' still contribute to the overall rating, but not nearly as much as the ones that take the time to add a review of at least one hundred words.

Finally, we have many members, collaborators and administrators that police our site and look into alleged attempts of rating manipulation. If you have a specific set of circumstances, please report it here:

And one of the team members will look into it and determine if someone is attempting to manipulate ratings.

Again, welcome to The Prog Archives and please dig around a bit, I think you'll find that we have a lot of good information and valid opinions throughout the site.
