I knew you hated the album but not that much LOL

I was listening to one of those 80's pop radio stations the other day (there are a lot here Confused) and they played 'Learning to Fly'. I thought it was better than all the cr*ppy songs they played before. LOL

I knew when I saw Pops as your avatar that there'd be something worthy of reading! Your view on the PF vs KC thing mirrors mine exactly (I'm definitely down with the "Eagles of Prog" vibe).

Well there's an Eagles of death metal.

yeah man.. I can give you one great reason to not vote for Floyd LOL

Actually, I sort of like that album. Well, of course, it's not as good as their masterpieces in the 70's, but there are some songs I really love, specially "On the Turning Away" and "Yet Another Movie" (though I do like better the versions on Delicate Sound of Thunder).

^ many people just can't find it in their hearts to forgive Pink Floyd for not disbanding after Waters leaked out - and some quite explicitly state that.

AMLOR, The Bell and TER are symphonic/psychedelic/space "rock" albums of exemplary quality, but hardly progressive comparing to the previous PF discography. At the same time, they are not at all vapid, or too commercialized or pop (unlike most of the post-1970s Genesis and Yes output)

That's one of the reasons I voted for KC most enthusiastically.

Agreed!

Also, I was at the local grocery last night, and I heard an orchestra playing (on the stereo) a song that I could have sworn was PF's 'On the Turning Away'. It was just faint enough that I couldn't hear it completely, but everything about it sounded spot on.

dude... you need a new pop station man....

crap??  oh god no!   Right off the top of my head.. each of these sh*ts on anything post 70's Floyd...

or this... hell yeah.. don't like this.. you have no pulse man..

or this... tell me post Water's Floyd.. lor ANY Floyd makes you shake your ass like this (though Crimson could..see Disicpline)

or touch your heart like this wonderful pop gem...

or rock as hard or heavy as this man...

*where is my headbanging emoticon*

anyhew... the point being. If AMLOR had been done by ANY group by FLoyd.. it would have been trashed as widely and loudly as the uncomformists here do.  They became a parody of themselves.. the same thing YES did.. and god almighty do they get hell for not hanging it up prior to doing that.

guess some of the bobbleheads were in la-la land ...or comfortably numb.. or just wanted to be sedated.. and missed the deadline to vote.

or perhaps it was the anti-Genesis club showing its power and reach (our membership rolls have doubled in the last few months) and propelled the cold and souless sterile genius that is  King Crimson to victory over the sleep induced sophomoric  soporific genius of Genesis. LOL

LOL be that as it may...my credibility was long lost... the cost of being a tongue in check poster.. half of what I say is intentionally bullsh*t..intended to provoke and stimulate  the other half unintentionally so LOL

the point is... it is still a better song than anything off of AMLOR... it isn't progressive.. it doesn't pretend to be. Unlike AMLOR.. which was just a sellout and a cash grab.. not to mention an album everyone involved with had NO idea how it would be received.. why? Because deep down.. they knew it sucked as well LOL  Great song, killer guitar solo. Fun.. and what was the Floyd album really?  Really?  It just was ...there.. it did and said nothing.

a good place to add the thoughts of an interested bystander about that album...

' I think it's very facile, but a quite clever forgery ... The songs are poor in general; the lyrics I can't quite believe. Gilmour's lyrics are very third-rate.'

Roger Waters

one could put it down to bitterness..if he wasn't so damn right about it LOL  Glimour was never a particularly gifted songwriter. Roger was (post Syd) the creative center of the group. Remove him and what do have ... an album in which RATT trashes anything and everything off of.

I never heard any of those on the radio (or anywhere), and I only listen to those stations when they are playing in public places. Nice songs though Smile

Your thought about AMLOR are mine about TFC: using the success of The Wall to collect cash by releasing a compilation of its worst kind of tracks. I can't stand that album... or any post-Floyd Waters' solo album Ermm

Start the revolution!  67 votes for Ratt . . . I mean Floyd.
