At the height of their powers they were both damn near untouchable. The difference is that Yes' height spanned a compact 4 1/2 albums over a 4 years stretch while Pink Floyd's spanned at least 8 albums over nearly the entire length of their existence. Floyd's only unlistenable album, in my opinion, is The Final Cut.

I was expecting this to be close. Can't say I mind the rout though.

Very close...I own 14 albums from each and my average rating per album is nearly equal. I consider Yes a flawed jewel as I can't stand the Rabin era but I gave them the vote for the CttE/Tales/Relayer trilogy that was far greater than anything the Floyd did

20 years ago, my vote would have been for PF....Yes edges them out now. You could say this vote is Close to the Edge.

I believe Floyd is the winner here. Some personal stats:
(> = better than, >>> = much better than, '=' = just as good as) Yes (s/t) > Piper at the Gates of Dawn More > Time and a Word Atom Heart Mother >>> The Yes Album Meddle > Fragile Obscured By Clouds/The Dark Side of the Moon > Close to the Edge Wish You Were Here > Relayer Animals > Going For the One Drama > The Wall The Final Cut >>> 90125 A Momentary Lapse of Reason >>> Big Generator The Division Bell >>> Talk The Endless River = Magnification, > Fly from Here, >>> Heaven and Earth

"Spacey blues band"
I can't count how many times I've heard Floyd been called that. |

I just love how in under 24 hours this tired poll has 72 votes and 3 pages of discussion.
No wonder people get bored on this website.

hah.
Don't think I don't know that frustration. I had a years long streak of NONE of my polls or threads getting to a 2nd page before dying. It is the nature of the beast here. As far as this. its meant to have fun.. nothing more .. nothing less. People are enjoying it. No harm there. |

Yes
Floyd probably don't even make my top 20 bands from the 70s
|
||
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
