That might have meant 3S (Solid State Society) but I've never seen it as such.

I've started Matt's recommendation of Haibane Renmei. I've finished 3 episodes and it is nice, a real slow-burner but i'm interested in where it will go from this point.

I can tell it has plenty of symbolism, but really haven't tried to analyze them, rather let them reveal and explain themselves - hopefully. The interactions with the Touga is what is most fascinating to me currently.
Will continue to update!

Currently watching Dragon Ball. Don't know if I'll continue into DBZ... maybe just through the Frieza series and some of the movies.

After that is Outlaw Star, FLCL, then going to take on the task of watching most of the Gundam series... I'm basically re-watching anime's I watched as a child but couldn't fully appreciate at the time.

Ok peeps.

I'm doing an essay on Anime/Japanese Animation. It is a general discussion about it: history, development, influence, mechanics, styles. But i wanted to do an analysis of an anime to kind of tie it all together and give an example of what anime can artistically do as a medium.

Right now i'm considering Ergo Proxy, a sci-fi anime with plenty of interesting themes, characters, and settings to dicuss. But i was wondering if i should choose a more popular anime that actually is considered a face of the genre, something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

The problem with choosing something like FBAB is that is isn't as fresh in my mind and covers 3 times as many episodes.

Do you see a problem in choosing Ergo? Or should i try to revisit an anime more popular and representative?

I'm not sure why i didn't think of this earlier, but im actually beginning to think of doing a Miyazaki piece for analysis instead of a show.

Doing Princess Mononoke. Relates to a lot of cultural themes im discussing in my paper. Woo.

Miyazaki is a good call, just about any of his the other Studio Ghibli films would work. How about Death Note for another choice, a good half way house between Ergo Proxy (which I've just finished myself after about 4 years!) and FMA.

I love Gundam, I'd recommend starting with the Universal Century based series first and watch the AU series after that.

I was going to suggest Death Note too, but Ghibli seems pretty solid as well.

Akame ga Kill started out good, then turned okay, but around Episode 20 went right down to horrific. Dead

I don't think I can even watch the last 4 episodes.

FWIW, I took a Japanese Arts class last winter, and we watched Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) in that class. Apparently it is the most popular and established anime both inside and outside of Japan. Being just a single motion picture, it might be easier to tie into your discussion.

Will you talk about the moe factor? Smile

Well it started to skip a lot of chapters around then so the pacing and depth was lost then. I'm waiting for epi23 to come out then all that there is left is the finale. I've been liking it - and i wouldn't stop so close to the end.

I do love the manga and have been following that.

But that's what's killed it for me anyway. After moseying along at the same pace as the manga, it suddenly crammed a bunch of content into 1-2 episodes and jumped ahead of the manga's storyline.

Actually, the main reason I'm putting it on hold is because I've enjoyed the manga so much, I don't want to watch the anime past the point where the manga is at. I know the storylines are vastly different now, but I'm still holding off. This close to the end I will finish it, but I may have to wait a few months, which I'm okay doing.

It's just you... you... you...

I haven't heard of it before, but maybe I'll take a look at it. What kind of story is it?

I'll probably get around to it eventually just to see what it's like. I've recently finished Durarara!!, an excellent series but held up more by it's amazing characters than the story which is a lot less focused than that of Baccano!.

Currently going through Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing and the original Mobile Suit Gundam series.
