When do we get to play offs? That's what I want to know.

It would be nice if people who are not interested in this game refrained from making comments that are neither useful nor constructive. If the list is flawed, then anyone is free to make his or her own, or to suggest changes POLITELY (as most of you have done so far). The good old maxim about not saying anything at all if one doesn't have anything nice to say is still valid.

Ok Raff, I am politely asking you right now: Do you eliminate bands from the list or is this how it stays?

Your suggestions are all very useful (I was referring to one particular poster, who just made a couple of nasty remarks without saying anything truly constructive), and I am sure my hubby will take them all into account. Just remember that the two main factors to be considered are popularity and influentiality - which rules out a lot of bands we like a lot. |

I think what people should realize is that this is a game, not a rating of importance. Just like the actual NCAA tournament the first round always has surprises.

I would prefer Godspeed personally.

Yeah, as people have mentioned, the obvious omissions to me are Marillion or IQ, and Sigur Ros (or Godspeed, but of the bands on this site SR have been one of the most popular over the last 15 years, and very influential).
I've never even heard of Traffic in my time on this site (probably my own ignorance), and Hitler says Kansas isn't prog, so there's a suggestion too. But looks fun.

.. they made my first 64 list as did many of the suggestions posted since the original list. Some really good suggestions of others that didn't however. I'll be weighing those versus some that did make it and work permitting (on emergency duty this week at work and was out very late yesterday) I'll get everything started Sunday. I'm sure if I get called out Sunday Raff will say something and I'll kick it off Monday instead. |

time for one more post before I head back to work, seems I just left work haha It should be, the last one was a real hoot. One the few times we kicked back and had fun around here instead of ripping each other apart as we did in the old days re: Traffic. One of those hard to really classify groups, which is a good thing. They were all over the place. As a music lover you should check them out. As a prog fan you should check this out haha. A favorite of a good many, even those not ID'ing themselves as fans per se of the group. |

Now that I realize that this is not a true elimination battle (I'm a little slow on the uptake at times), I will definitely suggest dropping Kansas in place of Strawbs. I don't ever recall the urge to pack my bong for a Kansas song, although I have contemplated packing my pistol while hearing Dust in The Wind. Aside from that, it's a great list.

Kansas made some very decent symph prog until they got sucked into AOR. I suppose Point Of Know Return is 'crossover' and very good it is. I also like Somewhere To Elsewhere. Excellent live band as well. I would leave them be.

Is this limited to bands, or are solo artists considered?

Progspin - Prog News without taste, flavor, access, knowledge or any semblance of discretion.
What is Going on behind closed doors. No leaks as of yet as to the highly antcipated unveiling later this evening of the field of prog64 however multiple sources have informed us that multiple gasps and manic laughter have been heard from behind the closed doors of Palazzo di Prog as presumably final seedings and 1st round matchups are being set. Rumor is only the first 8 will be seeded, two seeds in each of the 4 regions, the rest of the draw will be randomly. One can presume the gasps and laughter mean some highly entertaining matchups are in order. As always Progspin will break down each bracket and offer the worst analysis to be found anywhere after the selection show in advance of the actual beginning of the tournament. Which we assume will be announced later this evening as well. |
