I honestly can't get much into those free improv bands. I mean I like some noise, even harsh noise, and I like free jazz, but the rock free improv bands feel like they rely on a lot of all too common tricks.

KC's fine by me. I'm mostly referring to a lot of the "blow as hard as you can on a saxophone" kinds of things. But maybe I'm slighting the genre a little unfairly.

Improv is only fun when I'm the one improvising during a jam. Aside from that, listening to too much is snoozeville.

It's good when you have people who are very connected with what they're trying to express when they improvise. John Coltrane's post-bop and free work comprise a lot of my favorite jazz albums for that reason.

As far as noise goes I tend to prefer harsh stuff over the kind where you can actually hear what instruments are being used.

I'm okay with both. From what I've heard, though, I like Kevin Drumm the best, and he tends to fall on the harsh side, although he's pretty eclectic. His most recent album was super super quiet but enthralling. I don't know if I'd call it ambient but it's not completely noise either.

^Sheavy's link is a little more accurately what I'm talking about. It's not bad stuff, but its effect is lost on me for some reason.

I think the genre is lowercase.

Term added to the book.

Maybe non-melodic music most prominently featuring various distorted sounds in the same way that rock music uses guitar. Harsh noise would be like the metal of noise.

Polymorphia, how much do you think the music of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin have influenced 90s and 00s progressive metal. Musicians in those bands saw these films when they earher had small kids or where kids them selvs, itsvery powerful composed and arranged music, often a impressionistic expression. Ibelieve Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice have crafted inspirational muaic of great poigenance, spessialy the score to Beauty and the Beast i feel the atmosphere is transparrent in bands like Nightwish.
