Topic: Best Year Of Prog (After The 70s) Posted: September 02 2014 at 09:25 |
Pretty self-explanatory, what's your favourite year for prog rock since the end of the 70s?
2012 for me (Clockwork Angels, Iamthemorning's debut, and The Seer are all masterpieces), but 1999 was also brilliant (mainly Metropolis Pt. 2, Agaetis Byrjun, Still Life and when I was born ). This year's been pretty great too, so it could be my favourite in a few months.
Thanks for any feedback

2012 and 2013 were great years. 2013 saw at least 5 masterpieces, 2012 has seen two of the three best albums of the 21st century so far: Echolyn's self-titled album and English Electric (Part One) by Big Big Train (the remaining album is Maudlin of the Well's Part the Second, released in 2009).

Either 2001 or 2003 for me, both excellent years with several classics being released.

2011. Not for the highs but for the quantity of excellence.
The year many 'experts' call the Greatest Year of Prog--1972--only sports 56 albums on that year's ProgArchives' list. Of those 56, only the top 35 would achieve a ranking among the 2011 list of 100, and only 30 achieve the vaunted rating of 4 stars for "excellence."
36 albums from 2011 would rate higher than 1972's #24.
2010 is another one to consider.
Based upon albums rated above a 3.89 rating, the volume of high quality prog in the last five yearsfar exceeds the that of the 132 classics of the 1970-1975 era.

Either 1980, 81 or 82. Any year after these just get worse and worse. Mid 80s-Early 90s had sh*te drum and guitar sounds. Early 90s-Now had sh*te composition, sh*te vocals, sh*te loud guitar. Drums sounds are a lot better today than the late 80s but the bands today have less good influences so the songs are crap. Today's prog is try hard most of the time
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

2000 for me. SB, TFK, Echolyn, Transatlantic, PT, GH all had albums out that year.

I don't measure years.........but I seem to remember 2010 being a great year for music. Just like the start of the 80s.

I'd also say it wasn't after the 70's. Reading the title helps.
