Wife is not going, only my son and I, so I will not have to worry about her. But she is not that type, she will look around too as most of these stores also have like books and movies that she can browse thru. Similar to Silver Platters in Seattle, fairly large store and you can spend 2-3 hours in there easily. |

![]() So I will not go into too much depth on the new Led Zeppelin remasters. I purchased the LZ I Super Deluxe Box Set as I wanted the 70 page booklet, not sure if I will do the same for the other issues. All my LZ is old, been played a gazillion times and simply just worn out, they are old! This new remaster is just killer! The sound is so clean, out front and the detail of instruments is crystal, pin pointable on each song. I have always preferred side II of this album and I love it even more now. The bass lines are simply sick, the kick drums too and Jimmy Page's playing never sounded so good..... Absolutely recommended if you enjoy LZ and want to hear them in all their glory.

![]() Also got this in the mail today, just spinning it now. So far sounding really nice and well done for vinyl, mastering was done at The Mastering Lab which has a good reputation. Vocals are exceptional on this issue, overall sound is very nice, clean and pressing quality very high with no surface noise. All in all a really good vinyl issue, my numbered version is #337 Cheers!

^ They should release more Echolyn on vinyl - even though this album is very good, the earlier stuff is more exciting and needs to be put out on LP. I have #367.....

I don't enjoy led Zepplin music very much, but I do love their drummer. Anyhow, I am happy for you and your purchase. It looks great. Also Jose, I think it may be time to dust off those AKG's and run them through your warm tube amp to blast off into musical immersion. :) ![]() |

Your funny dude!! What I love about early LZ is the hard edged blues they play, with a splash of hard rock......Reading some of the commentary in the accompanied book, Page mentions over and over the blues, the blues....... I always felt Led Zeppelin was a blues band with severe attitude....

^ So were Cream !! Wheels Of Fire is such an amazing blues oriented album, with superb musicianship all 'round. The razor-sharp Clapton guitars, dynamite bass from Jack Bruce, and the rolling thunder of Ginger Baker's drums. Oh, what a delightful noise.

Apparently the Jimmy Page 2014 LPs were remastered from the original analogue master tapes. The way it should be done. I may pull the trigger because of that.

These are not AAA remasters....They are done from 24/192 hi rez digital files from the original tapes, for me this is the next best thing to creating the remasters. From what I hear the ADC then DAC conversions are done very well with quality gear, they are not compressed at all. The mix is very good on LZ I, I have read on other forums that LZ II and III are just as good if not a tad better. I think Side 2 of LZ I sounds fantastic......

Hmmmmm. I was a bit dubious. Those tapes are as old as i am! Guess i'll have to continue to suffer with my original/early reissue pressings. ;)

It is very difficult to get the "original mother tapes" out of the vault and have someone handle them, run them thru a mixing board again, and meticulously remaster/remix the originals. Then create a stamper from this redone analog tape and go to a pressing plant... For us analog lovers that is the holy grail. But in today's world of "I want it now, today and your an hour late already", some digital processing is always in the mix for convenience sake. At this point the main issue is taking the original tapes and creating a very well done high resolution digital file that can then be remixed/remastered to analog then a stamper then to a pressing plant, I would think this is like an ADD versus AAA process, not that people use SPARS codes anymore. Detail like this is what is usually missing when describing a reissue, how was it actually done? Regardless, the final outcome is the deciding factor, how does it sound? In general for a lot of vinyl I have been buying it is getting better. Bands know what mastering studios actually know what they are doing when mastering for vinyl, and these same studios make great CD and digital files. Of course I will always prefer the original vinyl issue, but there are some that were done badly and needed to be fixed....ie Genesis SEBTP, Foxtrot...The half speed remasters by Rhino and Nick Davis are brilliant. As this Led Zeppelin I has a nice warm analog feel/sound but still retained the big loud sound that is Zeppelin. It sounds like a new recording from 1969, which it should since it IS from 1969...Unlike one of my CD versions that sounds clinical, sterile and digital, which is not 1969. Unlike Genesis and King Crimson, which needed to be fixed (Steven Wilson is a master!!)...I don't think much needed to be fixed with Zeppelin originals. The original vinyl's that Bob Ludwig did are damn good...but like I said previously my LZ vinyl are old and worn out, its good to have a nice new version. YMMV Cheers! |

If the LP isn't analog cradle to grave, 99.9% of the time the CD will do just fine. I'm sure i have a few early 1980's era LPs that have been digitally edited/mastered in a collection of ~1.2K now, but i try to be as "AAA" mindful with my LPs as i possibly can.
Yes, if i have an "Audio Pet Peeve" that's definitely mine. To each his own. Happy listening. Edited by libertycaps - June 09 2014 at 14:50 |
