Erm, guys sorry for this but I think we need to go even darker into the twisted mind that is Genesis....

"I can’t see you mama
But I can hardly wait
Ooh to touch and to feel you mama
Oh I just can’t keep away
In the heat and the steam of the city
Oh it’s got me running and I just can’t brake
So say you’ll help me mama
Cos it’s getting so hard..."

Trust me the rabbit hole goes even deeper....

Because a bajillion other artists in that time period didn't call their significant other mama.

Not is a song about child abuse.

Which brings me onto another Collins written song about youth...

"I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord"

Basically the youth in the song has suffered premature-ejaculation during his first ever sexual encounter and the two involved reminisce after a chance meeting years later..

So... he's been waiting all his life to talk to his first partner if they remember him coming.

"Omigosh, it's been so long--"
"Remember when I CAME?"
"Uh... Nice seeing you. Bye."

This is Phil remembering his thoughts the night of the sexual fail.

"I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord"

He was only young but sex or losing virginity is what is most important to small balding chaps. To paraphrase: "Jesus I'm climaxing and we haven't even begun, Christ almighty I've waited ages for this, oh lordie, is this really happening? oh gawd"

The female then thinks back to not wanting to lend a hand to help him get re-aroused whilst he's figuratively drowning in his own semen.

Raindrops keep failing on my head, they keep falling on my - Don't get me started what this means!!!!

I mean the title itself is an OBVIOUS reference to kinky stuff.

I was convinced for the longest time that Mama was sung from the perspective of a fetus about to get aborted.  Really creeped me out for a while.

Really, when you get down to it, the main reason guys become musicians in the first place is to impress girls.  Think about it.

Mama is probably the darkest song ever written...

"Can't you see me here mama
mama mama mama please
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart oh
now listen to me mama
mama mama
you're taking away my last chance
don't take it away
can't you feel my heart?"

I'm not sure the forum T&C'S would allow me to elaborate and tbh I don't think I want to.

Yes it's about sexual goals.

TBH I think the direction the band was going in at the time was the reason Hackett and Gabriel left. They both actually leave clues for us as to why they left.

Gabriel wrote Counting out time, a song about wanting sex with a title that suggests it'll not be long until he leaves. Hackett wrote an instrumental called Walking away from Rainbows that was irrefutably about leaving Genesis, it's a nod to Silver Rainbow which is also a song about wanting sex.

Talking about lust...

Turn it on again

"It's driving me mad just another way of passing the day
I, I get so lonely when she's not there
I..."

Story of a guy getting bored of masturbating whilst on tour.

In the Cage is about a man who has fallen asleep during sex and can't release himself. It's subliminally hints that Gabriel feels trapped with his salacious band-mates and is no longer happy.

"I got sunshine in my stomach
But I can't keep me from creeping sleep
Sleep, deep in the deep

Rock face moves to press my skin
White liquid turn sour within"

I probably don't have to break that down for you all.
