"On your left and on your right Crosses are green and crosses are blue Your friends didn't make it through." It's obvious, it's a references to ejaculating early or going the distance and still not satisfying the harlot in the tail. Green for go, blue for blue balls. Left & right/crosses may be vague symbolisations of balls and the penis/balls combo or a term for sex I can link.

After more analysis I think it's more an album about sexual goals. Seems pretty obvious at times, especially when you consider the trick, tail elements and the fact the previous album wasn't about Rael but Gabriel himself and the last song Los Endos is a tribute to Gabriel. All seems elementary.

Really don't think any of this is true... You can find tons of these sorts of references on any album, practically song, if you want. Just pick out a random song that has lyrics that can be interpreted in many ways (i.e. just about every Genesis song) and I'm sure you'll find a few.

This thread is hilarious! I understand now that I’ve been misinterpreting the lyrics all the time. I thought Dance … was about carreering, Mad … was about how you always feel that what you don’t have is better than what you have, and that Ripples was about aging (btw, "The face that launched a thousand ships" is a famous quote by Christopher Marlowe, and it refers to Helen of Troy: "Was this the face that launch'd a thousand ships, / And burnt the topless towers of Ilium.").
I don’t think Robbery … is more than an attempt to write a witty Gabrielesque song in the vein of The Battle of Epping Forest. They even have a musical quote from Battle … : The lines Amidst the battle roar, accountants keep the score and He's leaving via the roof, the b*****d’s got away have the same melody. But by all means, go on and find more sexual imagery. It’s good fun. |

A Trick Of The Tail all about 'masturbation'.....who would have thought ? I can't wait to hear what Wind And Wuthering is all about.
Frankly I never really cared much for Collin's lyrics or whoever wrote them post Gabriel...and after Wind I stopped buying Genesis albums anyway.
A just for fun thread indeed.

That’s easy. It’s about farting: Whose seen the wind not you or I, But when the ship moves she's passing by. |

Basically wind and Wuthering is a follow up, almost a double album in the mould of Kid A/Amnesiac. It picks up the theme of sexual goals and mishaps. "Then comes this monster mouse"

All in a mouses night is about a man going out for sex with a lady of the night but he ejaculates during oral sex. 'Mouse' and 'cat' are euphemisms.
Pink Floyd used recurring themes in their albums that centered around mental illness or war. Most Genesis tracks revolved around sex or mythical tales. Edited by Matthew _Gill - June 01 2014 at 13:39 |

The palpitating cherry-red organ was returned to its rightful place and began to beat faster as it led our hero, counting out time, through his first romantic encounter.
Counting out time has been linked to sex and masturbation by many music reviewers down the years. I'm not so sure though. Obviously Lilywhite Lilith is a song about a prostitute. "Lilywhite Lilith, She gonna take you thru' the tunnel of night" "I can hear a whirring sound growing near. I can see the corner of the tunnel, Lit up by whatever's coming here. Two golden globes float into the room And a blaze of white light fills the air." Growing refers to a swelling penis making repetitive rubbing noises, seeing the corner of the tunnel is Rael watching it go in, lit up mean getting moist by Rael's increasing strokes, two golden globes floating means the tightening of the nuts and the last line is elementary. The Lamia is one of the most sexual songs I've ever listened to, it symbolises a very sensual orgy.
Look at this for a song opening: "The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near, He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier. Each step he takes, the perfumes change From familiar fragrance to flavors strange. A magnificent chamber meets his eye." Obviously performing oral on a female. 'Chamber,' 'passageway' and 'room' are all euphemisms. "Inside, a long rose-water pool is shrouded by fine mist. Stepping in the moist silence, with a warm breeze he's gently kissed." Obviously she's moist from Rael stepping it up and after a soft kiss he's ready to penetrate her "Thinking he is quite alone, He enters the room, as if it were his own," I think this means he's comfortable and is getting carried away "But ripples on the sweet pink water Reveal some company unthought of..." oh oh, more female company, Rael senses it via a tightening or increased moistness!!!! Hmm wonder if the song Ripples is a nod to this in the longing/wistful sense..

Yeah, Freudian slumbers shouldn't be taken too seriously. Often they're empty of sound.

Sometimes I look at the Genesis lads of 75 and think, yeah, they aren't sleeping with many groupies. They aren't slipping it into the nectar. |

It
The Lamb Finishes with a track called It that seemingly declares sex as the be all and end all, the meaning of life. "When it's cold, it comes slow Just a little bit of it can bring you up or down The first two lines describe a penis' reaction to temperature. Though all this has been ascertained from the serendipity of realising an album title's trick name the salacious side of the band is explicitly obvious when you break Genesis down and get in their collective head. Yep, I don't think there's any doubt about the Lamb. And I think it was all quite intentional on the part of Gabriel.
